I have obtained Civil War records on several of my ancestors from the National Archives in Washington, DC. The NARA has a web site where you can order the free forms. You do not need to know everything - just enough so that they can find the record. Name, death date and place, age at death, state, etc will probably be enough. They let you know if they find the file and give you 45 days to send the money and they will send the report to you. They only charge for the report; they do not charge you for searching their files. How would I find out about a veteran living in Fairfield County who served in the War of 1812? This man is William Shimp, died May 20, 1840, and is buried at Mt. Olive Cemetery. Cemetery Information notes him as serving in the War of 1812. Were there obituaries or cemetery records that might give his unit? Thank you for any help you may be able to offer. Sincerely, Dorene Shimp Morris

Would all of the death information be contained in this record or were there also individual death certificates during this time period? Also, were there individual marriage licenses in 1807 or would all the information available be in the Ohio Probate Court Marriage Records 1803-1823 microfilm? Thanks. Diane Barbare [email protected]
Anyone on this list descend from George NIGH/NYE who married Lucinda CUSHMAN? They were actually married & settled in Wyandot Co., but Lucinda grew up in Fairfield. I am mainly researching the CUSHMAN line. Lucinda's father was Horatio CUSHMAN. Mother unknown. Thanks. Gene Majors
