    3. I'm hoping someone out there can help me. I'm looking for any information on Mt Carmel Church. It used to stand on Basil Western Rd west of Baltimore Ohio. I believe it was either Presbeterian or Lutheran. I know it stood until at least 1914-1916 time frame, but after that I'm not sure. One story I've heard is it was struck by lightening and burned..........but I don't know if that was true. If anyone could help, it would be greatly appreciated! My great grandparents met there at a church social, and I would love to know what happened to the church. Thanks! 1. Ohio Volunteer Infantry
    2. This is a list of soldiers from Fairfield county, Greenfield Twp. found in the Lancaster Daily Eagle of May 7, 1924: WANT NAMES OF VETERANS _________________ Committee Seeking Complete List of Civil War Soldiers From Fairfield Co. _________________ Names of Soldiers are to be Placed on Bronze Tablet in Sherman Armory _________________ The committee appointed to secure names of soldiers of the War of the Rebellion who enlisted from Fairfield County, to be placed on tablets in the Sherman Memorial Armory, has obtained 1,600 names from the roster and from soldiers now living who have furnished lists of their own companies. The population of Fairfield County in 1860 was 30,000, including 4,000 for Lancaster, and the veterans estimate tha 3,200 soldiers enlisted from old Fairfield. It is a very difficult matter to secure these names sixty years after the time of enlistment, as the muster-rolls and the register give the place of mustering in and not the place of residence. The committee is now making an appeal to the townships for additional names, hoping in this way to get them by neighborhoods from soldiers still living and their relatives and friends, but the names will be placed on the tablets by regiments and companies -- not by townships. Anyone who can furnish additional names with companies and regiments will kindly send this information to Post Commander Charles W. EMBICH, 492 East King St., Lancaster, Ohio. Comrade James W. BUCHANAN, who died recently at Basil, had furnished the list of soldiers from Greenfield Township which appears below, and lists from other townships will be submitted from time to time as they are received.
