Hi, I'm new to this and have been reading the correspondence sent to my email address with great interest. If I have sent only to an individual and not the group, please advise me. My ancestors go way back to the early 1800's into Fairfield county and other southeast Ohio counties as well. I have not been unable to find any information out on one particular line: the Vandergriffs. Hester D Vandergriff was born in Hocking County according to her daughter's birth certificate. Her father was Henry Vandergriff and her mother was Patricia Carnes. If anyone has any information on these people, it would be appreciated. Thanks a lot. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Rebecca C. I suspect this is the same John w/second wife Nancy that moved on to Ind.? I also have a James again spelled LARIMORE m.Emely Susan BOWEN,Feb.12,1835,again marriage record in Hocking Co.,Oh. And Eleanor LARIMORE m.Issac Hall 1851,also Mary A.LARIMORE m.George Glaze 1851. I'm not related to this family, however Mary A.(Larimore/Larimer?) interests me. I believe she had a son with husband George Glaze,b.1854 Oh. By 1858 George has married his second wife. Believe son was living with grandparents. Too many Larimore,Hocking Co.,Oh. marriages for these Larimores NOT to be related to Larimores of Fairfield ,Oh. and later Ind. Would like to find family for Mary A.Larimore,as I have a copy of her marriage record dated Sept.18,1851,suspect she died before 1858,as that's when husband married his second wife. The weird part is,a Mary comes up in the 1870 census w/George,she's age 30 b.Pa. Then I have Mary A.Lar! imore's name as mother on a 1900 Hocking Co.,Oh.marriage record to a child of George b.1878? There's no way she could have been the mother of this child. And no,there was only one George Glaze in Hocking Co.,Oh.from 1850-1900.I have George on the 1860,1880,1900 census w/his second wife. Strange isn't it?
Could someone please see if there might be a marriage record for: John DUGHMAN / DUCHMAN / DOUGHMAN / DOMAN and Elizabeth (unknown) sometime 1818 - 1822 or so? He lived in Pickaway, Fairfield, Hocking cos, and he lived in all 3 counties from then till at least 1847. I would really llike to find their marriage record. It would be a fantastic help. Thanks. From approximately 1870-1930's - There existed the Fairfield-Pickaway News, published in Stoutsville (Clearcreek twp., Fairfield Co.) by H. O. Harden. Also you might check the Circleville, Pick. Co., Oh newspapers. These newspapers reported extensively on both Amanda and Clearcreek twp's. Thanks for all your suggestions to help me. However, I do know that the proper spelling of the name was "BOWLING" as that was the name on his son's death certificate and on census records. I did all my initial research on the Poling idea and came up empty. There are also land records when Nancy Ann Bowling bought land from her brother, John Lane, for a house. Either her husband died very young or he abandoned his wife and child. I had wondered if the Civil War could have been the culprit, but he was gone by 1850. Another one of life's little mysteries. Ms. Lane, Catherine Amelia Bowling Lane married the nephew of my great, great, great, great grandmother Rebecca Lane (married Horatio Clark, Sr.) who's family originated in Maryland in the 16th mid-century, lived in PA and migrated to Bloom Twp., Fairfield Co., OH in 1799. I don't have any information on the Bowlings but do have quite a lot on John Lane's ancestors, including a 100 page narrative on the Lanes and Clarks. I'd be glad to send it along. I'd like to get a copy of her obit. for my records. Have we corresponded or shared information before? Fred Schultz [email protected] Waynesboro, VA
I am not a Poling family member, but they married into my PETTY line. They all went to Lawrence Co.,, IL starting in the 1830-1840 period so if you don't find the generation you want in OH, look in IL. I have a lot of that family on my Petty family site. Let me know if you want access to ti. Marjory PETTY Austen
Jeanne, You might try researching that Poling name as there are a lot of Polings in the area. Check out Perry Co. for Polings also. Kay Brandt Hughes
I have a typescript of the obituary for Catherine Anelia BOWLING LANE. She died on 4 April 1906 in Royalton, Fairfield County. It states that there was a picture attached. I do not think it was from the Lancaster paper, as I have had no luck locating it. Was there another paper published in the area at that time? I would love to see the picture that accompanied the obituary. She was my husband's GG Grandmother and we have been unable to find much about her family. I know she was born near Fredericksburg, VA and came to Ohio as a 3 year old but I do not know who her parents were. I think she was the grandchild of Charles Bowling who was a Revolutionary soldier in Fairfield County records. I also think that a sister of her husband, John LANE, married her brother. That couple were Nancy Lane and J. J. Bowling, Jr. (Marriage record says J. J. Poling, Jr.) Would certainly like to know the story of that family. He disappears after the birth of a son and she is shown living with her brother and his family in the 1850 census. If anyone knows of a different newspaper published in 1906, I would really like to know of it. I think there was, at some time, a paper published in Pickerington but am not sure. Help!! Jeanne T.
