    1. Newpapers in Fairfield County
    2. Are there newpapers for the 1840's and 1850's available somewhere for Fairfield County Ohio? I have been searching for an obit or death notice or something for my great great grandfather Jacob Stuter for years now. He must have died by 1850 because his wife Harriet Chamberlain Stuter went to work for John Bright as a servant and then married John by 1853. Her three Stuter children were farmed out to relatives until Harriet and John married and then the children too went to live at the Bright estate on Havensport Road in Baltimore, Fairfield County. I would love to find any information that would lead me to his grave or the reason for his death so I could maintain his grave. Of course there could be other scenarios also. With great appreciation for all who help. Bonnie Morris Conrad [email protected]

    3. I had always thought that my ancestor, David Frazier, had died by 1880 as his wife and young child were living with another family on the census. I recently found a mention that Ida Frazier and her husband, David were divorced according to a newspaper printed in Fairfield October 23, 1883. I was hoping that someone might be able to obtain a copy of the divorce record for me as this man has been my brick wall for a decade. Would be happy to pay costs of time/copies/postage, etc. Please e-mail me if you might be interested. [email protected] Thank you, Mindy

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/2VB.2ACE/147.1 Message Board Post: What a wonderful story. I was searching for some history of our "old house" in Amanda, Ohio. We lived not far from the Cedar Hill Evangelical United Brethern Church. As kids we use to get rides to church with neighbors. This was in the 1950's until 1961 or so. A Mr. Winters was our close neighbor, and he grew lots of corn around our rent house. I am not sure who owns the farm now, but last year my sister and brother went over there and got permission to walk around the site of our old home. The home is no longer standing, the one-room school house was blown down by a tornado in the 50's, but the cemetary is still there, as my siblings found it. The new owner of the land had planted corn over it, and the stones were covered with brush and weeds, and partially in the dirt. My sister had looked at two of the stones and found the name of "Cole". We as children never thought of remembering names, and now we know who were buried there. There was a murder in the house at one time, because there was a gunshot in the parlor door that was very much splintered, and never was fixed even when we lived there. I don't believe it was a myth, by any means at all. There was too much 'bizarre" happenings in that place the ten years we lived there. I was a "happy camper", when we finally moved. I remember there were 7 or 8 stones in that cemetery, because, we had to walk past it to get to the "backhouse". If there was 2 Coles buried there, there could be more. I agreed with my sister that the "Historical Society" in Lancaster should be able to get this cemetery sealed off. I believe you have to take County Road 22 Southwest of Lancaster, Ohio to get to Amanda. Also going west on the Winters road you run into the old Crumley Place and near the old Russell place. I am just wondering what "Cole" family might have lived there before we did? Also if the family buried here was one of early 1800's. You never know unless you ask. Thanks. J. Clark

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/2VB.2ACE/470.2 Message Board Post: Your query covers a fairly broad spectrum of time. Wilhelm Kaiser was WWI era, while the Nazi's emerged during the 1930s and defeated near the end of WWII. Many German emigrants left during that entire timeframe. The red, white and blue could refer to the American flag BUT maybe it is possible one of the flags of their home country had those colors in it. In fact, I watched Sound of Music last night and I know the pre-Nazi Austrian flag had at least Red and White. You need to get your data organized and verified from the latest going backward, starting with you. Birth and death certificates. The latest US census open to the public is 1930. Verify your relatives are or are not in that. Also check the Ellis Islands Immigration Records, I know they have some from the 1920s. Good luck. An old Fayette County history, published in 1897, places Wm. R. Campbell in Lancaster, Ohio, at that time. I understand that Wm. married 3 times -- first to Pauline Shook in 1878 , then to Grace Wolfe and Margaret H--?--. (All I have are those two wives' names, no dates or places.) Pauline was my great-grandmother. She and Wm. were divorced, he disappeared, and she eventually remarried. I'd like to know what he did with the rest of his life and would love to see some photos of him.
