    1. Joshua Meeks and William J. Meeks
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Meeks Meek Cherry Watson Lee Meason Mason Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/2VB.2ACE/488 Message Board Post: I am in search of Fairfield County Records (Land, Tax, Birth or any other records) from the time frame of the Northwest Territory from 1799-1801 on Joshua Meeks, William J. Meeks and John Meeks. I have determined my line, however I would like to find additional information on the names of children in these families and locations for their property. Additional information on my line: Jeremiah and Sarah Meeks Joshua and Elizabeth Meeks William J. Meeks and Rachel Carr George Meeks and Margaret Watson George W. Meeks and Arthela May Logan Lloyd J. Meeks and Mary Lucille Harney Resources: 1) Jeremiah and Sarah Meeks were the parents of Jeremiah Jr., John, Joshua and Anne (MEEKS) Cherry (and possibly a Jacob) 2) Joshua Meeks was the father of William J. Meeks 3) William J. Meeks was the father of George Meeks 4) George Meeks was the father of George W. Meeks 5) George W. Meeks was the father of Lloyd J. Meeks I have determined that my GGG-GF is William J. Meeks, Sr., he was born on March 2, 1800, in Fairfield County, Ohio and died on 9/8/1875 in Fulton County, Ohio. William J. Meeks was married to Rachel Carr in 1819, Rachel was born on 12/17/1798 in Fayette County, PA and she died on 8/15/1884 in Fulton County, Ohio. I have established that my GGG-GF William J. Meeks' father was Joshua Meeks, who was present in the Northwest Territory (Later Greenfield TWP, Fairfield County, Ohio). Joshua Meeks moved there in 1799 and was there until he died in 1801. Joshua Meeks, along with Ralph and Jeremiah Cherry signed a request in 1799 and in 1801 to be granted Northwest Territory land, in what became Fairfield County in 1800 and Ohio soon after. A John Meeks was reported in the area as a neighbor to the Cherry family. Information from the book: Pioneer Period and Pioneer People of Fairfield County, Oh by C.M.L. Wiseman; Joshua MEEKS was an early settler of Greenfield Township, Fairfield County, Oh around 1799, and died a few years later, possibly from yellow fever in 1801. He arrived in Fairfield County, Ohio with Ralph and Anne (MEEKS) Cherry. Jeremiah and Sarah Meeks were from the area of Frederick and Berkeley County, Va. I am looking for additional information on this family. I have now traced Joshua Meeks from Fairfield County Ohio in 1801 to Washington/Fayette County, Pa and then to Frederick/Berkeley County, VA. Information on Anne MEEKS Father: Jeremiah MEEKS Mother: Sarah Ann MEEKS Anne MEEKS b. June 17, 1750, d. 9/27/1822 Husband: Ralph CHERRY b. I am looking for every piece of Meek/Meeks information that I can find from earlier than 1785 including information on the Meek(s), Cherry and Meason/Mason families from Frederick/Berkeley Co. VA in the 1700s. Berkeley Records: Thomas Cherry & William Cherry, 6 Dec. 1762 - 23 April 1763; 132 acres drains of the Potomac; adjoins Cherry's former patent. Chain Carriers: John Richardson and ????al Cherry. Surveyor Thomas Rutherford. Archibald Shearer, assignee of Moses Cherry; 29 Feb. 1768 - 8 July 1768; 336 acres on Potomac; adjoins his own, Thomas Cherry's 100 acres & 125 acres patents, Aaron Cherry, Vulgamore and Wells 288 acres survey. Chain Carriers: Joshua MEAKES & John Richardson. Surveyor Richard Rigg. This is three years after Ralph Cherry, (son of Thomas Cherry) married Anne Meeks in Berkeley County, VA in 1765. I found this information in the Allen County Library: Maryland Marriages 1634-1777 Jeremiah MEEK - Sarah LEE, Married Sept. 18, 1731, Saint Anne's Parish. I am not 100% sure that this is my Jeremiah, but I believe it is. I received a copy of Jeremiah Meeks administration and information from Westmoreland County, Pa. It is typed exactly as written. Jeremiah Meeks Deceased - Memorandum - that on the twenty second day of October in the year of our Lord. One thousand Seven hundred and Eighty three. Letters of Administration of all and Singular the Goods and Chattels. Rights and credits, which were of Jeremiah Meeks, late of Westmoreland County Deceased, were granted to Ralph Cherry, the said Administrator is to make a true and perfect Inventory of all the Personal Estate of the said Deceased, and file the same in the Registers Office, at or before the twenty second day of November next and is to make a true and just accompt calculation and Reckoning of his said Administration, on or before the twenty second day of October next. Ensuing the State hereof. ----------------------------------------------------------- This establishes the correct date of death for Jeremiah Meeks, as 10/22/1783. 3. I am looking for information about Rev. Samuel H. McClenaghan. He served the Presbyterian Church in Groveport, Ohio, and while there married Anna Crist, daughter of Samuel S. Crist. They had two children Paul and Kathleine. Anna died in 1908 and the two were with Samuel Crist in census listed as Clenaghn. I finally found Samuel buried in West Rushville Cem. but have not located where he was nor if he remarried, nor what happened to Paul and Kathleine. His father was William who was born in Pennsylvania and came to Fairfield co prior to 1870 census. One census says his two oldest children were also born in Pennsylvania. Samuel died in 1941. I have not yet located place of death or an obituary. If anyone is related to this line, I would appreciate any help or suggestions! Thanks so much. Margaret Calvin formerly of CW.
