    3. Sue: I haven't researched the Gochenour/Cochenour family in Ohio. My knowledge of a few members is limited to eastern Pennsylvania and Virginia. I'm sure members of the family did come into Ohio, and probably Allen County. Many of the families into which they married followed the Pennsylvania-Virginia-Ohio pattern. -- Karl Seitz >Hi Karl >I see you have a Gochenour listed in the Beery family. 2. Karl or Pat Seitz
    3. Anna Beery Seitz and Anna Beery McLaughlin are first cousins once removed. Anna Beery Seitz (c1768-1831) is a daughter of John Beery (b1729) and Catharina Hunsaker (1730-1801). Anna Beery McLaughlin is a daughter of Abraham Beery (b1762) and apparently his second wife, Barbara Good (bc1772). Anna is the granddaughter of Abraham Beery (c1735-1799) and Elizabeth Gochenour (c1737-1800). The elder Abraham and John are brothers, sons of Nicholas Bieri/Beery and Barbara Miller -- Karl Seitz. >I don't have the deed records, but I have the Death Certificate of >the son of another Anna BEERY, Samuel McLaughlin. >The Anna BEERY listed as mother of the deceased on this Death >Certificate was married to Michael McLaughlin, both born in Virginia. >This Death Certificate for Samuel McLaughlin says Born Virginia >1850, Died 1920, Residence Pleasantville, Fairfield County, >Burial-Place Old School Baptist Cemetery, Thurston, Fairfield County. > >I wonder if these Anna BEERYs are related? > >Thank you, > >Scott >chillybin1999@msn.com<mailto:chillybin1999@msn.com> > > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: Annette Stewart<mailto:stewart@wesnet.com> > To: ohfairfi@rootsweb.com<mailto:ohfairfi@rootsweb.com> > Sent: Wednesday, April 02, 2008 7:33 AM > Subject: Re: [OHFAIRFI] Lewis & Daniel Seitz land location > > > Can someone please look up the deeds for Lewis (married to Anna Beery) and > son Daniel Seitz (married to Catharine Beery, 2nd wife) land property in > Fairfield, OH? 3. They could be related; about all the Berry's are and they intermarried with the Seitz's, etc. I don't know about this particular Anna Beery, but you might check the "Beery" book. The Seitz's came from York Co., PA, into Rockingham Co., VA and then into Fairfield Co., OH partly because they didn't believe in the slaves issue. 3. Kaye, I am not a White researcher, but I did check the Amanda cemetary listings. There is not listing for Louiza Javis/Garris,etc. being buried in that township in the book Cemeteries of Amanda Twp. However Eliza & William W. are listed in Amanda Township Cemetery: Wm. W. White d 11 Nov 1880 aged 77y 10m 1d Eliza, White wife of William, died 20 July 1870, aged 61y 13d If there is a death record it would be at: Fairfield County Probate Court Hall of Justice, 224 E. 1. Re: [OHFAIRFI] Lewis & Daniel Seitz land location
    2. Karl or Pat Seitz
    3. Annette: I don't have the deeds, but I do have some index pages from which I have extracted and deduced the following: Lewis Sites/Seitz probably bought his first property in Fairfield County in Range 18 Township 14 Section 2. The purchase was from the United States. The deed was not actually recorded until 1836 in Deed Book 1 Page 391. This was 13 years after Lewis died and five years after his widow, Anna Beery, died. From 1806 until 1821, Lewis and Anna are recorded as selling property in the following locations: Range 18 Township 14 Sections 2 and 11, which is Berne Township; Range 18 Township 15, Section 35 which is Pleasant Township; and Range 19 Township 16 Section 12, which is Liberty Township. Some of the purchasers are relatives by blood or marriage. The most significant of these may be the 1816 sale to their son John Seitz. The property is in Range 18 Township 14 Secton 2 and Range 18 Township 15 Section 35. This would be on the border between Berne Township and Pleasant Township. Depending on where this location is east and west, it could be as close as three miles from the Pleasant Run Primitive Baptist Church, which is in Pleasant Township. John and Lewis are listed next to each other in the 1820 census for Berne Township. As for Daniel Seitz, I do not have any information on when he bought property. What I do have is a series of transactions in 1864 and 1865 by his heirs, who apparently sold their shares of his property to his son-in-law, John Shumaker. The property is in Range 17, Township 16 Section 30, which is Rush Creek Township. Daniel and his brother, Jacob, are listed next to each other in the 1820 census for Rush Creek Township. At its closest point, Rush Creek Township is about three miles from the Pleasant Run Primitive Baptist Church. The actual distance Daniel lived from the church was probably greater than that. Five or ten miles on horseback or by buggy would be a reasonable distance to travel in those days for what was probably a much longer affair than current Sunday worship services. Just to avoid further questions: The named townships (Berne, Liberty, Pleasant and Rush Creek) are political subdivisions of Fairfield County. The Range, Township, Section numbers are legal descriptions based on federal land surveys. The actual deeds probably include specific information about the part of the section (i.e. northwest quarter of the southeast quarter) in which the land is located. -- Karl Seitz >Can someone please look up the deeds for Lewis (married to Anna Beery) and >son Daniel Seitz (married to Catharine Beery, 2nd wife) land property in >Fairfield, OH? The Anna BEERY listed as mother of the deceased on this Death Certificate was married to Michael McLaughlin, both born in Virginia. This Death Certificate for Samuel McLaughlin says Born Virginia 1850, Died 1920, Residence Pleasantville, Fairfield County, Burial-Place Old School Baptist Cemetery, Thurston, Fairfield County. 3. Annette, Have you tried this: The Bureau of Land Management-Eastern States General Land Office (GLO) Records Web site is now back online at : http://www.glorecords.blm.gov. Find the Green Bar at top area of page, click on Search Land Patents, they ask for your area zip code. Then you can search their records by State. Very Easy. I see a Jacob Seitz, 7/31/1827, Range 17W, Twp 16N, Sec. 31, Fairfield Co., they also have a copy of the record you can print out. Lots of other Seitz 's in Ohio too. 1. [OHFAIRFI] 1870 Census, Clearport, Amanda Twp, Fairfield Co: Wm. White, wife Eliza, daughter Olive - JAVIS or GARIS
    2. K Steward
    3. Greetings. I'm new to the list, and seeking info about Wm and Eliza White as listed in the 1870 Census for Clearport, Amanda Twp, Fairfield Co. Well, really, I'm interested in any info about the lady living with them in the 1870 Census - Louiza JAVIS (possibly GARIS) listed on the Census records indexed on Ancestry.com), age 72, female, white, infirm, born PENN, etc. with no relationship indicated between Louiza and the White family. The handwriting seems to indicate that the surname is really spelled JAVIS, not GARIS or GARES, but pronunciation could account for the difference. You can tell that I'm grasping at straws, and wondering if this Louiza JAVIS might possibly be my gr-gr-grandmother, Louisa GARIS or GARES, wife of Samuel GARES, who lived in Groveport, Franklin Co, Ohio from the 1840s or 1850s. I'm hoping that someone might have researched the WHITE family, and know something about this Louiza. Since the Census says she was 'infirm', I wondering if there might be a death record for Louiza around Clearport or somewhere else in Fairfield County. Even finding such a record, and eliminating the possibility that she is 'my' Louisa would be progress in the long search for this female ancestor. 'My' Louisa died June 27, 1875 at age 77 (according to her gravestone) in the Groveport Cemetery, where she is buried with her husband Samuel GARES. However, I've never been able to find her anywhere in the 1870 Census, nor her death record anywhere in Franklin Co, so I'm expanding my search. The Louiza living with the Whites in Fairfield Co. is almost the right age, and both that Louiza and 'my' Louisa were born in PENN, but I have no knowledge of a connection between the WHITE and GARIS or GARES families. Any info, assistance or suggestions for further research would be much appreciated, Kaye Steward Edmonton, Alberta, Canada

    3. Earl, Thank you! Is there a way to know if the Barbara & Samuel McLaughlin listed are really the parents of the Elza, and Martha McLaughlin listed? Elza and Martha are siblings of my great-grandmother. It would be great to verify the Barbara & Samuel McLaughlin your book lists are their parents! If I have the correct Samuel McLaughlin's Death Certificate, he died 1 SEP 1920, Burial-Place Thurston, Ohio, and his parents are listed as Michael McLaughlin & Anna Beery, both born in Virginia. Is this really them. If I have the correct Barbara McLaughlin's Death Certificate, she died 29 Dec 1928, Burial-Place Thurston, Ohio, and Surname of her father is listed as SNIDER, born in Ohio, mother listed as Unknown. Elza McLaughlin's Death Certificate says he died 12 Nov 1947, Burial-Place Old School Baptist Cemetery, Thurston, OH. If I have subtracted correctly from Martha McLaughlin's Newspaper Obituary, she died 6 Feb 1957, Burial-Place Old School Baptist Cemetery. I am going to have to travel the 2,500 miles and see this. We think our George is probably related to Christian and the rest of the Bobsts in Rushville at this time, but can find no evidence this is absolutely true. In 1854, Christian and the rest of his family moved to Nebraska and became some of the first settlers there. http://www.fortunecity.com/millenium/kibble/93/bobst.htm With Christian is his brother George T Bobst, who appears different than our George Bobst. In the 1860 Rushville census George and Wilymina and one child Samuel Bobst b.1849 are not found, and their surviving children- George Washington Bobst b1846, William Bobst b.1853, John Bobst b.1854, and David Lewis Bobst b.1857 are split up and living with three different families. One family is the Roberts, which is Wilymina's maiden name. So what happened to George, Wilymina and Samuel continues to be a mystery. If anyone else wants to join the hunt, any help would be appreciated. Possible that he is the George listed in the partitions abstract and brother to Daniel,Eliza,Elizabeth, Christian, Michael and Mary. Mary that died in 1839 would be his mother and marriages his siblings, but no marriage record found for him. Possible he married in other surrounding county. The only thing I found in the obituary abstracts was for David Wilson 1885 which is as follows: Vol3 p.7 June 13 1885 - David Wilson was born in Bedrod Co.PA on 8Sept 1797 and died in Eureka, Missouri 17 May 1885. He came to Fairfield C. OH with his parents in 1800 and maried Elizabeth Bobst on 30 Oct 1822. In 1860 they moved to Moargan Co.Missour to Tipton Missouri in 1862 and to Eureka Missouri 1880 to live with younest dtr. Mrs. A. B. Markley. He was the father of Mars. Robert Work of Fairfield Co. In 1860 all the children are living with various different families. The families seem to be relatives of the wife. Looking for any information.
