Hello All, I'll take a stab from memory on some nostalgia about Indian Lake. My Grandmother (Nelle R. Deardorff Sloan b. 17 Oct 1889 d. 21 Apr 1976) used to tell me that the first time she went up to the Lake she traveled on a corduroy road (for you yougsters that is where the surface of the road was made from logs). The first winter that she stayed there she said that there were only two others that spent the entire winter: Father Wolf, and I can't remember for sure if it was French Wilgus or who. She owned Cottonwood Resort, which was located right next to the spillway. While I was growing up I got to know Diamond Lil Beatley, Russ Schuler, the Davis family, the Tate family, and many other of the families that were among the first to live at Indian Lake. My father used to tell the story of how he set in and played drums with most of the Big Name Bands. They used to have a large open air dance pavillion at the amusement park at Russells Point. Sometimes they would have two name bands one at each end and charge 5 cents per dance. If anyone has a particular questions about Indian Lake I'll try to answer them. Somewhere I have a booklet on the history of Indian Lake. I think that I might have left that at my mothers home in Richmond, IN. I'll contact my sister and have her look around for it. If anyone has any old pictures or books on the history of Indian Lake I would love to get a copy of them. Thanks for the trip down memory lane, Dave Sloan
