Hi Everyone, The following message should explain some of the problems in the databases and the fact that I can't upload at present. Thankfully, I have my own backups to all of our files so none will be lost. As always go check out rootsweb and donate to help the cause. They are providing the genealogy world with a great service. I'm running backups now, and I hope I can get a current tape made before the drive fails entirely. I have a spare drive ready on the shelf, and if all goes well I'll be installing it this afternoon. There will probably be some annoying side-effects associated with the move to the new drive, but I'm hoping we'll be back to fully normal operations by tomorrow night. We may be up and down quite a bit for the next 36 hours as I work through the problems. These are the times when I look forward to the day that we can afford to have RAID-5 arrays on all our servers. (RAID-5 arrays are composed of multiple redundant drives, and the failure of a single drive has no effect on the operation of the overall array.) Thanks to all the Members, Sponsors, Donors, and Patrons who have provided the resources that allowed us to have spare drives available for emergencies like this! I'll get us back on the air as fast as I can, B. - -- Dr. Brian Leverich Co-moderator, soc.genealogy.methods/GENMTD-L RootsWeb Genealogical Data Cooperative http://www.rootsweb.com/ P.O.
