I have 4 families that came together in Erie & Huron Co., OH between 1820 and 1880. The BURDUE family was in Berlin at least by 1817 when Rebecca B. md Jacob Mingus. My interest is in Jacob Burdue who md Olive Steadwell in 1832 Huron Co., OH. died in 1835 and his family joined together to sue the young widow (b. 1814) to recover Jacob's land which was part of a family holding. Olive soon remarried Jonathan Cook (1835 Huron Co., OH) and he was added to the lawsuit. The Cooks moved on to Berrien Co., MI by 1839, but after Jonathan Cook died in 1841, Olive remarried to William B. Ames (1843, Erie Co., OH). They are found in 1850 in Berlin with 3 young Cook children and 3 more Ames babies. Olive STEADWELL was the dt of Abraham Steadwell and Rebecca Sheffield who came to the area by 1830. JONATHAN COOK b. abt 1841 Berrien Co., MI md SADIE MILLER _______. Later lived in Williamston, Ingham Co., MI. CHARLES O. AMES b. 2/4/1845 Berlin, OH, went to Hancock Co., OH CLARK H. AMES b. abt 1846 md ANNA J. VOORHEES 1872 Huron Co., OH. Later went to Hancock Co., OH. WILLIAM H. AMES b. abt 1849 Berlin, OH ANNA AMES b. abt 1854 Berlin, OH BYRON H. AMES b.
