I have copies of Furman/Firman spelled both ways. Family Search records list Henry Furman, Margaret Furman and her parents as Benjiman and Jane Furman. Some of the census records list them as Furman also. Margarets Death certificate list it as Firman. I have run across the same spellings for Harriet Gaul in Family Search and U.S.census records. Harriets death certificate from Spring Grove has it as Gall. I feel like the correct spelling is Firmam and Gaul. I know this is not much help ,but both spellings show up at different places. Maybe its like the Teetor/Teeter/Teter/ Teator/ Dieter , spellings. sorry no hel! p this time. Gordon
