Charles Wesley Clayton was the son of a Samuel Clayton, a Methodist Episcopal preacher. Charles Wesley Clayton married circa 1860 Mary Ann McCam. In 1866 they moved to Oskaloosa, Jefferson County, Kansas, and in 1873 they moved to Osage County, Kansas. Eight children: Olive Clayton, who married NN Calking, of Olivet, Osage Co, Kansas in 1920; Emma Clayton, who married NN Cameron, of Spokane, WA in 1920; Mary E. Clayton, who married NN Getchell, of Olivet, Osage Co, Kansas in 1920; Martha Clayton, who married NN Lassi, of Portland, Oregon in 1920; Charles William Clayton, who married Esther Elizabeth Shreck Feb 6, 1901, died Sep 1964 in Trail or Rosslyn, British Columbia, Canada; Maynard A. Clayton, b Nov 14, 1880, d June 1975 Snohomish Co, WA. Two other children, Francis and Minetta Clayton, died in infancy.
