In Fairfiled Township one of the first settlers were: Aaron Smith arriving approx. 1820 Havilah Smith arriving appox. 1822 Also the first frame building was built by Aaron Smith, and the first brick house was Havilah smith's and L. T. Brown. Ezra Smith of Macksville was the first one to open a store in Clarksfield Township in 1831. In Greenfield Township, William Smith married Leona Pierce in 1817. They were the first to be married in Greenfield township and Eratus Smith was the justice of the peace and he performed the ceremony. Eratus Smith started the first religious meeting in his cabin, it was started on the first Sunday in 1815. In the springtime of the year. the first school was located south of Hiram Smith's home. in 1818 a library organization was called the "Social Library of Greenfield" Eratus were one of the men on the board. In Greenwhich Township one of the first settlers was Ezra Smith approx arrival was 1824 Willis R. Smith approx. arrival was 1824 the first store was opened by Ezra Smith in the northeast corner of the township in 1824.
