Mueller's Greenlee Funeral Home Franky Uhling, age 82, of Burbank, WA, died Thursday, March 16, 2006, at Lourdes Medical Center in Pasco, after suffering a heart attack. She was born October 7, 1923, in Canton, Ohio, to Fred Esten and Murrell Ina (Stemple) Lucas. She was the youngest of four daughters (The others being Harriet Ellenor, Vivian Mae, and Elizabeth Grace). Her father wanted a son, so he named her Francis, spelled like a male, after a close friend of her dad’s, Franky! In 1941, Franky graduated from Sandusky High School in Sandusky, Ohio. She later moved from Norwalk, Ohio, and to Pasco in December 13, 1943 with a quick move to Richland December 14, 1943, her father working for DuPont. In 1945 her parents purchased the “Burbank Trading Company” from Ed Horrigan. At this time she worked as an operator for the Pacific Telephone and Telegraph company. In 1947 she met Ray Uhling after he returned from war. October 1948 they were married. After moving to Burbank in 1948, Franky and her husband, Ray, ran Ray's Service Station on Highway 12 until 1963 when they purchased a 177-acre farm near Wallula. . She was very involved in the Columbia School District as well as the Burbank community for many years. She loved Burbank so much, she even wrote a book about its history, which she was very proud of. Franky never knew a stranger. Her greatest joys in life were spending time with her loving family and her grandchildren, as well as listening to music of any kind, taking pictures and writing letters to the editor of the newspaper. She will be loved and missed by all who knew her. Franky is survived by her children, Raymond H. Uhling, Debra Palm Uhling, John Lorenze Uhling and: granddaughters, Maren Reynolds and Cheyenne Childers; grandson, Chase Uhling; and great-grandsons, Shawn and Mathew Reynolds.
