I CAN'T REMEMBER Just a line to say I'm living, That I'm not among the dead, Though I'm getting more forgetful And mixed up in the head. I got used to my arthritis, To my dentures I'm resigned, I can manage my bifocals - But God, I miss my mind. For sometimes I can't remember When I stand at the foot of the stairs, If I must go up for something, Or have I just come down from there? And before the fridge so often, My poor mind is filled with doubt - Have I just put some food away, Or have I come to take some out? And there's the time when it is dark With my nightcap on my head, I don't know if I'm retiring, Or just getting out of bed. So, if it's my turn to write you, There's no need in getting sore, I may think that I have written And don't want to be a bore. So remember that I love you And wish that you were near; But now it's nearly mail time, So I must say goodbye, dear. There I stand beside the mail box, With a face so very red - Instead of mailing you my letter, I opened it instead! .......author unknown....... ==== GenHumor Mailing List ==== !^NavFont02F034F0007NGHHJ51F574 Maggie's World of Courthouse Dust & Genealogy Fever http://www.infinet.com/~dzimmerm/mindex.html *-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-* God Put Me On Earth to Accomplish a Certain Number of Things. Good Evening, Well after a harrowing three days where we were not sure she would live to have the surgery, mom had her valve replaced today. Everything went picture perfect and she had her eyes open in Intensive Care afterward which is a really good sign. Thanks for all your support and maybe tomorrow I will clear out my mail. I checked I have 593 messages just sitting there. I am searching for my grandfather's sister, Daisy TRUMPOWER LYON or LYONS. She married James LYON(s) and they had the following children, birth order unknown. Ardeth, Irene, Kenneth, James, and Charles (Buster) LYON(S). My mother told me about visiting this family at Sandusky, and mother's sister (who is still living) says the family lived in Huron. Daisy most certainly is a nickname, but have never heard her called anything but Daisy. The children would have been born probably between 1900-1915 or so. I would like to ascertain Daisy's given name, where they lived and would LOVE TO contact any family members. Are there indexes for census for that area? Are there city directories that would list the names and the address? Any and all help is appreciated. Leora lslosser@pathwaynet.com
Hi Everyone, I am just typing a short note. Mom had a major attack yesterday morning and is not in the hospital awaiting emergency surgery to replace her heart valve. It seems the blockage was worse than they thought. I will let you know what happens. I got her there before she had a heart attack so they tell me her chances of a full recovery are still excellent. It seems she was supposed to stay still and only lay or sit. Of course, Mom being herself was out pulling weeds and doing what she always had and I am only a daughter so she would not listen to me. But now she is in Cardiac Care and she HAS to listen to them. Hi Everyone, Well this is just a note to let you know that we survived the tornado that went almost directly over the house around 1pm yesterday. (of course the weather service says that it was only straight line winds but I have never seen winds that took the roof off one house and left the next untouched!) Our electricity and water have just been turned back on and mom and I are both thankful. If I don't answer a message you sent me in the last 24 hours please resend it as my mailbox probably got full and rejected a lot. They say that we are in for more 4th of July but for now things are sunny and in the 70s so if I disappear off an on it could be the weather or mom. Mom's Open Heart Surgery is going to be Wednesday, July 8th so from the 6th through the 8th I will most likely not be around at all. Weather permitting my mail will be picked up but I will not respond as mom and I have a heavy schedule getting her ready to go. She is so much looking forward to feeling better. Following is a poem by Allan Hins, written in October of l986: MY ANCESTORS I often wish and wonder afar, to know my ancestors, my fathers, my mothers, all of them to the dawn of history. They who made me what I am, those parts that I cannot change; my moods, my joys, my sorrows, my peace, and my prosperity. Who are you that lived so long ago, what were your hopes and dreams, your pain and strivings unfulfilled, your sacrifices made with courage. Did, really, your cup runneth over, so that little I, little I, might have a life with goodness and plenty unbounded. Might that I can in some little way, add my drop of sweat, glistening, to even the way for my sons and their daughters, to survive in this world with their right to be free. Did you reach for the very stars that shone in your evening sky, or did you touch the valley that lay so very deep inside your breasts. Was peace so far to reach, or did fears and tremblings surround you everywhere. Your labors, were they happy ones to give man that reason for being. The fruits of your work, did they quicken your spirit, or did they heighten your soul, as well as your cupboards and granaries. Why is it that I wonder about you, Do I feel you in my bones, and wish to know you dearer and better. Of this I am most certain, You have passed away , o'er distant horizons, to peaceful rest, but you shall never, never be unknown. ==== GenHumor Mailing List ==== !^NavFont02F047F0007NGHHK810BBB Maggie's World of Courthouse Dust & Genealogy Fever http://www.infinet.com/~dzimmerm/mindex.html *-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-* God Put Me On Earth to Accomplish a Certain Number of Things. Webster, always unsentimental, says a house is a building for people to live in. The key to its meaning is the phrase "live in." A house is a warm and clattering kitchen redolent with magic odors that linger with a man forever. It is a warm spot on the rug before an easy chair, a worn spot on the linoleum to mark the gossip of l0,000 dish washings. It is a penciled scale on a door jamb that marks a youngster's proud growth. It is knee-high fingerprints on the wallpaper. Ancient echoes rebound eternally from the walls of a house- a child's cry, the easy silence in the midst of easy talk with friends, a long-forgotten argument, the ring of a happy woman's laughter. A house is an endless procession of meals solemn with grace and lively with chatter. It is a place of long dreams in the long night and the whisper of love and tenderness. A house is storm windows, screens, and where-does-the-money-go. It is clean the garage, burn the rubbish, let the cat out, patch the roof, mow the lawn. It is the pipe that pounds, the window that sticks, the creaking third step from the top, the furnace that declares its independence on a deep-freeze day in January. A house is an attic tumbling with the dusty disorder of yesteryears - the boxes, trunks and crates filled with the dresses, the pictures, the dolls, the toys by which, through tears and smiles, we cling so desperately to that which is forever gone. A house is a doorway of greeting and farewell. It is an overflowing bookcase, a flicker of firelight on a shadowed wall, a spot on the rug where the baby threw his grapejuice in a fit of anger. It is a workbench littered with heaven-knows-what. Bib or small, rich or mean, a house is an illusion, a thing of hopes and dreams and ghosts. Habit and tolerance and hope and love hold it together. And of these, the strongest nail and the most enduring mortar is love. While this is not humor, I thought my fellow geneologists might enjoy this. Hello Everyone! This message is to explain what will happen if you send file attachments, HTML coded documents, VCARDs, MIME format and enriched text. Remember, this is addressed to me, the Listowner. Please read on... ------------------------------------------------------------------ FORWARDED MESSAGE - Orig: 23-Jun-98 12:02 Subject: Blocking Attachments and HTML From: listowners-announce@rootsweb.com To: David Zimmerman 73777,25 ------------------------------------------------------------------ Hi, folks -- Well, it took almost two months longer than expected, but we're right now installing a SmartList hack that blocks file attachments (including VCARDS), HTML messages and enriched text postings. Sorry about the delay: things have been crazy around here. This note is to let you know how it works. When a poster sends something to a mailing list written in HTML, or with a non-plain-text attached file, the list server will send the poster's message back to them, with a note at the bottom explaining the plain-text requirement at RootsWeb. A COPY OF THIS REJECTION MESSAGE WILL BE SENT TO YOU AS WELL! That's because the poster may write back to you to complain or to ask for help, and it can be pretty confusing if they write a reply to a message that you never saw. So when you suddenly start getting messages from YOURLIST-L-REQUEST@rootsweb.com, quoting some ungodly HTML mess that you never saw before, don't be alarmed. :-) It just means the list server is rejecting a MIME message that was sent to your list, and that you may get a response from the poster. This change is not currently something the listowner can turn on and off. Attachments will be blocked from every list alike. This might not be to the taste of some listowners, so we'll consider closely whether it would be safe to make it an optional setting. Thanks to Marc Nozell for finding the SmartList patch that was used as the basis for this fix! Regards, Tim Pierce RootsWeb Genealogical Data Cooperative volunteer sysadmin and general hacker !^NavFont02F06AD0007NGHHMAE2B86 Maggie's World of Courthouse Dust & Genealogy Fever http://www.infinet.com/~dzimmerm/mindex.html *-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-* God Put Me On Earth to Accomplish a Certain Number of Things. Hi everyone, I'm sure that this has made the rounds, but I hadn't seen it and thought it was really funny: Murphy's Laws of Genealogy 1. The public ceremony in which your distinguished ancestor participated and at which the platform collapsed under him turned out to be a hanging. 2. When at last, after much hard work, you have evolved the mystery that you have been working on for two years, your aunt says, "I could have told you that." 3. You search ten years for your grandmother's maiden name to eventually find it on a letter in a box in the attic. 4. You never asked your father about his family when he was alive because you weren't interested in genealogy then. 5. The will you need is in the safe on board the Titanic. 6. Copies of old newspapers have holes occurring only on the surnames. 7. John, son of Thomas the immigrant whom your relatives claim as the family progenitor, died on board ship at the age of 10. 8. Your great grandfather's newspaper obituary states that he died leaving no issue of record. 9. Another genealogist has just insulted the keeper of the vital records you need. 10. The relative who had all the family photographs gave them to her daughter who has no interest in genealogy and no inclination to share. 11. The only record you find for your great grandfather is that his property was sold at a sheriff's sale of insolvency. 12. Dear Friends, I love this. Each of you make a difference to so many. Thank you for being in my life. A man is walking along the beach picking up starfish and tossing them back into the sea. A younger man comes up to him and asks him why he's doing that. The man replies, "To give them a chance at life". The younger man says, "Why bother! Look at all the starfish washed up on this beach. Do you really think you can make a difference?" The older man replies, "To that starfish, I already have!" I am sending this out to refresh folks how to Subscribe and Unsubscribe. If you all do this yourselves you free me up for other things. Think how much more I could get done if I don't have to mess with that! Besides while I am at mom's the Internet is a long distance call so I keep my contacts with that to a minimum.
