This consisted of 52 privates and 17 officers and non-coms. William True, was named as 1st corporal. The reason that this company was formed is that in 1863, rumors of rebel activities in Canada and threats of raids from that direction by bands of southern sympathizers led by rebel officers kept the island people in a more or less anxious state. Daily Commercial Register, Sandusky, Ohio - July 13, 1864 The remains of our friend, Charles Mitchell, Co. K, 130th O.N.G., who died at City Point, Va., July 2nd, arrived here on the ISLAND QUEEN, Friday evening, July 8th. They were taken to Kelley's Hall to remain over night. Saturday morning he was interred at the cememtery. The Episcopal burial service was read by Mrs. J. Kelley, and a hymn sung at the grave. On Sunday the Rev. Mr. McCune preached his funeral sermon. (Charles is buried next to Hattie True, with the same stone, on Kelley's Island. Hattie True was a sister to Sarah wife of Charles.) Mr. Mitchell moved to this place with wife about three years ago from the State of Maine. He was one of those social, happy, and truly honorable men who are ever welcome to all social circles, and most deeply do we feel the great loss and we have sustained in his death. He did not enlist as a soldier as a matter of choice, but purely as a duty which he owed his country; yet few went more cheerfully. His comrades write that his death has cast a gloom over the company which will be long felt. Everyone supposed he was getting along well with the measles, until within an hour or two of his death. That his wife and remaining relatives may take consolation in the remembrance of his many virtues is the sincere wish of a friend. E. H. I don't know if this information will be of any help to you as this seems to been a different company. Wanted: A reply from all descendants of veterans from the 24th Ohio Volunteer Infantry Regiment, 1861-1864. I am constructing a history and genealogy of the 24th Ohio Infantry Regiment. My idealized focus is ambitious, recording each veteran's antebellum and post-war experiences, as well as their war service information. I need help tracking down the descendants of the 950 veterans. To aid you in determining whether you have a veteran in the 24th Ohio Regiment, below is a list of counties (and cities) where the companies were organized: (A) Huron (Norwalk) (B) Muskingum (Zanesville) (C) Erie (Sandusky) & Columbiana (New Lisbon) (D) Adams (West Union) (E) Montgomery (Dayton) (F) Trumbull (Warren) (G) Huron (Monroeville) (H) Cuyahoga (Cleveland) (I) Highland (Hillsboro) (K) Coshocton (Coshocton) To view the roster of volunteers from each county, use the following web URL: http://www.geocities.com/CapitolHill/Senate/1861 Please reply with a brief note concerning what you may know or have about each veteran. All persons who contact me will be noted in the upcoming book as sources of information for each veteran. Also, I will share what I know about the 24th Regiment. If you have any questions, please contact me, John Rutherford, at the following email address: ovi24th@yahoo.com I offer my sincere thanks for your help. Sandusky - FULLER family From: MR RUSSELL C SAGE WKRD62A@prodigy.com To: David Zimmerman 73777,25 ------------------------------------------------------------------ Hi Maggie: Unfortunately, I only know of the eldest son, Amos, who married Rebekah (sic) BURROUGHS, d/o Thomas and Margaret _______, in Fairfield (Co., city???) and settled in Delaware Co., OH where this branch remained for several generations. My info on Amos (Sr.) comes fron the Delaware County History, which was written before his death. Amos and Lucinda BEVINS were married in CT and left shortly thereafter for Canada. Amos (Jr.) was born in 1801 enroute (presumably on shipboard); the family was in Ft. Detroit at the time it fell to the British in 1813 and Amos (Sr.) died in 1815 in "Sandusky" and Lucinda died in 1823 also in "Sandusky". Since Amos was only 22 when his mother died, someone must have taken the other five children into their care-but who? Maryarn No, the Erie County Ohio Cemetery Census Before 1909 is out of print. It went to many libraries. Have you checked you local library? Carol Sandusky, Erie Co., OH
Hi. I would like to hear from anyone who might be doing research on the LIEB family from Erie Co. Two brothers, Ambros and Wendelin, and their sister, Cecilia Lieb who married a John Roeder emigrated from Bavaria, Germany to Sandusky, Ohio. Ambros and Cecilia came in the early 1870's and Wendelin came in 1883. There are a lot of their descendants still living in Erie Co. and the surrounding area. Would like very much to make connect with them. Thank you. Carole (Fries) Johnson

Sandusky available in print, such as residents, arivals departures? Are there any ancient cemeteries covering the approximate period of 1810-1825? Specifically, I am searching for information on one Amos FULLER and his wife, Lucinda BEVINS who died in 1815 and 1823. I am descended from their eldest son, Amos who proportedly had five siblings but I have found no trace of them or where their parents are buried. All I know is that they died in "Sandusky", which did not exist at that time. The following information explains the history of the Archives. I have just finished updating my part of the archives and any files that you want to submit are great with me. Please go to the Ohio TOC for the archives at http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/oh/ohfiles.htm and check out what is there. You may find something that will relate to your family. This project will grow with your help and assistance. The USGenWeb Archive was developed to present actual transcriptions of public domain records on the Internet. This huge undertaking is the cooperative effort of volunteers who either have electronically formatted files on census records, marriage bonds, wills, and other public documents, or are willing to transcribe this information to contribute. Once the decision was made to develop a project, originally called "TimeToDo" Something, a call went out to volunteers who would be willing to transcribe primary records as a "service to the community", find a way to get them posted on the Internet, and allow the USGenWeb county hosts to make them available to the Internet community by links to the ftp datasets. Space was donated by RootsWeb for storage of the files. Carol: Thank you for your answer on what is MILK LEG. I originally got the name from a grand daughter of the person who died from it but she didn't know what it was. (she is now 94 years old) I've ask several people if they knew what it was but was never able to get an answer. Thanks again to you and OHERIE. I'm not a nurse or doctor, but I think this means a blood clot caused by an inflamation in a vein which occurs shortly after giving birth or something along these lines. Hi Everyone, Mom and I want to thank you all for your continued prayers and good thoughts. I am going to give you another update because some folks missed the last one. Mom had open heart surgery to replace a 99% blocked aortic heart valve last Wednesday, July 8, 1998. She is now in the stepdown unit with most of her tubes, etc. gone and walking up and down the halls. She says the hospital food is AWFUL so I am taking in contraband. (That's hard on a no cholesterol, no salt, no stimulants, cardiac diet.) Tomorrow or the next day she will go to inpatient rehabilitation for probably a week. She says three days but I suspect they will keep her longer. Since she won't listen to me this is a good thing. While I am waiting for her to get home I am going to start updating the pages with the stuff that I have already saved. (This could take a long time as I have a lot.)
