Hello, I have been lurking here for several weeks. The time has came so I'll plunge in with my request. Could some one in Erie county help me with a distant relation? I have two people that passed away in Erie County. Martin Neal died 1845, wife Nancy died 3/24/1849. What I would request is that if someone would try to find the obits. Don't have any info on Martin except bp. Pa 1767. no parents siblings or anything else. wife Nancy no maiden name, bp. Pa. 1778. Their daughter Hannah Neal married David Wert, both of them died in Crawford Ohio. Please help me, need all the help I can get. Thanks Lowell Pickett

Maybe someone else can help? Maggie ********************************************************** Lower Sandusky was not located in Erie County but in Sandusky County and was the name of the area now known as Fremont, Ohio. It was named that because it was on the lower part of the Sandusky River. All the area which is along the Sandusky River to the south of Ballville (which is now the southern edge of Fremont) was know as Upper Sandusky. The name "Lower Sandusky" was not changed to Fremont until 1849. The area across the street from the present day Sandusky County Court House in Fremont ( then Lower Sandusky) is where Fort Stephenson was located which was gallantly defended by Major Croghan during the War of 1812 and was one of the turning points of that war in the Ohio/Michigan area. The area on the east side of the Sandusky River at Lower Sandusky was later called Croghansville. For further information on the history of the area, read A HISTORY OF THE NORTHWEST OHIO by Nevin O. I know these have been around for a while, but they are still funny: Murphy's Laws of Family History The keeper of the vital records you need will just have been insulted by another genealogist. Your great-grandfather's obituary states that he died, leaving no issue of record. The town clerk you wrote to in desperation, and finally convinced to give you the information you need, can't write legibly, and doesn't have a copying machine. That ancient photograph of four relatives, one of whom is your progenitor, carries the names of the other three. Copies of old newspapers have holes which occur only on maiden names. No one in your family tree ever did anything noteworthy, always rented property, was never sued, and was never named in wills. You learned that Great aunt Matilda's executor just sold her life's collection of family genealogical materials to a flea market dealer "somewhere in New York City." Yours is the ONLY last name not found among the three billion in the world famous Mormon archives in Salt Lake City. Ink fades and paper deteriorates at a rate inversely proportional to the value of the data recorded. The critical link in your family tree is named "Smith." --Rick "Putting flesh on the bones of history" ==== GenHumor Mailing List ==== !^NavFont02F041D0006NGHHKf4F77 Maggie's World of Courthouse Dust & Genealogy Fever http://www.infinet.com/~dzimmerm/mindex.html *-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-* God Put Me On Earth to Accomplish a Certain Number of Things.
