------------------------------------------------------------------ FORWARDED MESSAGE - Orig: 15-Aug-98 5:27 Subject: veterans records From: LeaAnn Rich INTERNET:leaann1@bellsouth.net ------------------------------------------------------------------ Just a note to all here about veterans records. I obtained a copy of the form you need to get veteran records off of the National Archives Website. You can order them and they will send them snail-mail, also a form to request census records. The form for veterans records states: "Military service records rarely contain family information. Pension application files generally are most useful to those who are doing genealogical research and contain the most complete information regarding a man's military career. We suggest that you first request copies of a mans pension file. You should request copies of a bounty-land warrant file or a military record only when no pension file exsists.( request them all at once, took me 5 months to receive anything back from them.....LeaAnn's note) If the veterans service record waas during the Revolutionary war, bounty-land warrant applications have been consolidated with pension application papers. You can obtain both files by requesting the pension file only." Just thought I'd send that along. -- LeaAnn- Homeschooling mom of Aaron-10, Brandon-6 and Tori-3 Researching, BELLOMY, CARSON, DEWEY, JAYNES, KELLEY, RICH, SHOEMAKER, TIPTON !^NavFont02F04D10007NGHHKD3449F Maggie's World of Courthouse Dust & Genealogy Fever http://www.infinet.com/~dzimmerm/mindex.html *-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-* God Put Me On Earth to Accomplish a Certain Number of Things. I am researching Brundages in Erie County and any information will be appreciated. In Oak Bluff Cemetery are the graves of oldtimers: Almira Brundage d.07Aug 1829 at age 20 Ebenezer Brundage d.06 Oct 1854 at age 68 John Brundage d. 17 Dec 1853 at age 61 Sally Brundage d. 30 Sept 1855 at age 62 (w/o John) Believe John to be the father of Giles Brundage who married 18 Dec 1861, Sally MASON daughter of Asa and Sally Rhoads Mason. James C. Brundage d. abt 1855 and is buried in Riverside Cmty. Does anyone know if Ebenezer, John and James are related? James C. Brundage also had a son, Capt. Ebenezer Brundage b. 11 Jan 1811 Penn Yan, NY d. 8 Jul 1889 in Berlin Hts. Ohio. His other children : Henry b. abt 1820; Amanda b. 1814 married Bowen Case; Mary b. abt 1806 married Elihue Darling; Clarissa b. abt 1815 married Milton Sweet; and Anna b. abt 1831 married James Dale. Is anyone researching Brundages in Erie County? Appreciate any additional information. Thanks, Carol McClure
Hello Greg, I don't know if I can help you much, but I have odds-and-ends of most Vermilion and Florence Twp. families. Unfortunately I don't see anything about Allen, Dolina, or Silas in what I have on-hand(including Cem.records, and local census beginning 1850). Most of the MASONs were living in Florence Twp., Erie Co. in 1850....you can find Florence Twp. records at http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/oh/erie.htm I also have misc. notes about a lot of them, so just ask if you see any that you need more info on. The only two MASONs in 1850 Vermilion Twp. were: family #121 MASON, John c1803, NY; living with him were JOHNSON, Lawrence c1815,NY; Angeline c1826,CT; Ervana c1850,OH. family #166 MASON, Sarah c1806,NY. I would be more than happy to keep alert for any mention of Allen, Dolina, or Silas in this area. I am very interested in keeping track of all of the early families from here. Hi again John, Saw the post to the Erie Genweb about the Cemeteries and 1890 Census. I reread all Florence Twp. Cemeteries last Fall, and they are available online: http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/oh/erie.htm Also have started Vermilion Twp. ....have completed "Orchard Beach" and the "Township Section" of Maple Grove. Also, I have a fairly complete record of Maple Grove, recorded previously, and would be glad to check it for any names you might need, it includes burials to 1985. Warning that there were many errors in the book "Erie County Cemetery Census through 1908" for Florence and Vermilion for the oldest stones. Here is an alphabetical list of the Florence Twp. 1890 Soldiers Census, with some additional notes about the soldiers. I will be having Maggie post this on the Archives page, too, and probably Vermilion Twp. when I get it to it. Ted Reising, Florence, Erie County, OH. Hello all, A portion of a message from Carol Steele about cemeteries interests me. How many of the Erie County, Ohio, cemeteries have had recent tombstone readings? The reason for asking is that I am transcribing the 1890 Veterans Census for Erie County, Ohio, and would like to find some of these veterans' burial locations during the week following Labor Day. John Our city of Sandusky, Erie Co., OH was home to various tribes of Wyandots, Delawares, Erie and Ottawa Indians. Sandusky is believed to be derived from an Indian name meaning "cool, clear water." I have never heard of the Sandusky Indians. Maybe someone else on the list has some info on them. I have no knowledge of anything in Erie Co. being referred to as the Big L. Carol

"I Want" By Barbara A. Brown * ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Yep -- I want ancestors with names like Rudimentary Montagnard or Melchizedick von Steubenhoffmannschild or Spetznatz Gianfortoni, not William Brown or John Hunter or Mary Abbott. I want ancestors who could read and write, had their children baptized in recognized houses of worship, went to school, purchased land, left detailed wills (naming a huge extended family as legatees), had their photographs taken once a year -- subsequently putting said pictures in elaborate isinglass frames annotated with calligraphic inscriptions, and carved voluble and informative inscriptions in their headstones. I want relatives who managed to bury their predecessors in established, still-extant (and indexed) cemeteries. I want family members who wrote memoirs, who enlisted in the military as officers and who served in strategically important (and well documented) skirmishes. I want relatives who served as councilmen, schoolteachers, county clerks and town historians. I want relatives who 'religiously' wrote in the family Bible, journaling every little event and detailing the familial relationship of every visitor. In the case of immigrant progenitors, I want them to have arrived only in those years wherein passenger lists were indexed by National Archives, and I want them to have applied for citizenship, and to have done so only in those jurisdictions which have since established indices. I want relatives who were patriotic and clubby, who joined every patrimonial society they could find, who kept diaries, and listed all their addresses, who had paintings made of their horses, and who dated every piece of paper they touched. I want forebears who were wealthy enough to afford, and to keep for generations, the tribal homestead, and who left all the aforementioned pictures and diaries and journals intact in the library. But most of all, I want relatives I can find!!! C Barbara A. Brown * Ms. Brown's "I Want" article was originally posted in 1994 to the National Genealogical Conference, FIDO bulletin board forum. ==== GenHumor Mailing List ==== !^NavFont02F072B0006NGHHNsC9D8 Maggie's World of Courthouse Dust & Genealogy Fever http://www.infinet.com/~dzimmerm/mindex.html *-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-* God Put Me On Earth to Accomplish a Certain Number of Things.
