    1. Christmas
    2. A Christmas Story.... Some time ago a friend of mine , punished his 3-year-old daughter for wasting a roll of gold wrapping paper. Money was tight, and he became infuriated when the child tried to decorate a box to put it under their Christmas tree. Nevertheless, the little girl brought the gift to her father the next morning and said, "This is for you daddy." He was embarrassed by his earlier overreaction, but his anger flared again when he found that the box was empty. He yelled at her , "Don't you know that when you give someone a present, there's supposed to be something inside of it?" The little girl looked up at him with tears in her eyes and said, "Oh daddy, it's not empty. I blew kisses into the box. All for you Daddy." The father was crushed. He put his arms around his little girl, and again begged her forgiveness. My friend told me that he kept that gold box by his bed for years. Whenever he was discouraged, he would take out an imaginary kiss and remember the love of the child . who had put it there In a very real sense, each of us as parents has been given a gold container filled with unconditional love and kisses from our children. No more precious possession could anyone hold...

    3. Also from http://www.infinet.com/~dzimmerm/Erie/resource(01).htm there is a lady named Jan Guiliano JGuiliano@csi.com She is willing to do lookups in the following: 1. Erie County Soldier's and Sailor's Home Index in Sandusky, Ohio. (The records are in Xenia Library. This includes an index and an address where the records that are in Columbus, Ohio reside.) 2. She will copy the records and mail them to you. Just drop her an email with the persons name. The index is alphabetical. 3. Book about the Xenia Ohio Soldiers and Sailors Orphans Home, now known as the Ohio Veteran Children's Home: "The Pride of Ohio". Many of the residents were from all over Ohio, but there weren't veterans housed there, only "orphans" or children of veterans in temporary placement. It's by coincidence that Xenia has the Sandusky Veteran's home records. Maggie !^NavFont02F02C60016NGHHGPNG3FHG50NIC1HIC779AA

My daughter does a lot of the library work for me so let's have her take a look for the name on microfilm. Norma

    1. Re: Fw: The Old Soldiers and Sailors Home
    2. Ginny, The question I asked is do they keep records for people who have been there from the very beginning and she said yes they do. I also asked if those record were available to us for genealogy purposes. She said they were. However, you had to request in writing for the information. She did not mention a fee, I guess I should have asked, I was just so thrilled to finally talk to a real person I lost my head. I asked her if they could tell me over the phone the location of the grave and she said that to must be done in writing. I will be more than happy to do what I can from here. I would probably suggest when you write that you include a self addressed stamped envelope. I guess I will call tomorrow and ask some important questions. I am so sorry, sometimes my mind just steps out to lunch, and I forget to go along. Thanks Norma

    3. Norma - I, too, have an ancestor who died at the Old Soldiers and Sailors Home and want to thank you for the information you have shared. Do you know if they will provide information in addition to the location of a grave - such as death certificates, etc? Also, is there a charge for the copies? Thanks again for you help. 2. HI Bob, Here is what I found out today. They do keep records and do have lists of everyone buried in the cemetery. However, they do not give that information over the phone or in person it must be in writing. I would think it would easier on them to have someone walk in the door and give them the information but what do I know. So you can write or I can doesn't matter to me. If you do and then they tell you where the grave is located I will be more than glad to get pictures and send to you. Thanks, Norma J. 2. Thank you for very much for the information! From this information it looks like "Botilda" was Matilda Bahsnsen's nickname? Would this be a correct assumption? There is no mention of Botilda's parents in the obituary, but her maiden name must have been Bahsnsen from the looks of it. My cousin (who is also doing research with me) and I are so excited! I did also speak with an 82 yr. old Johannsen late Friday. I must meet with him as soon as possible to get information as he has been quite ill this past year. anyway, thanks for the information and yes, please send me the other information. IMy home address is: Sue Johnson, 42674 Jones Road, Wellington, Ohio 44090, phone (440) 647-2916. And, if you will give me your home address I will send you a check for your trouble. Sue

    3. Hi Everyone, Well my husband upgraded me to Internet Explorer 4.01 and things have been interesting since I was holding onto IE 3.0. I made some changes on my main page at http://www.infinet.com/~dzimmerm/mindex.html and could you check it out when you have time. I made it sleeker (I hope) and added the link to the OHFOOTSTEPS Mailing list and the files where you can put in a town and find out what county it is in. In the next few days I will also get up a file of township where you can find out what county they are in. In the far future is a search engine to do this for you automatically. Thanks for your time, Maggie !^NavFont02F01FB000FNGHHG8DNGB9HHFC39AE

I have a GGGrandfather on my Mother's side who died at the home on 14 December 1906. His name was Burkhart Martz and was a veteran of the Civil War. He was wounded at the Battle of Stones River in the hip. A wound which plagued him throughout the rest of his life. I really want to know if he is buried at the home and did the home keep records on their patients? Thanks for any help! Happy Holidays!
