    1. Purdy/Stewart/Sweet/Fowler
    2. Leonard Purdy
    3. My families were in Erie Co from c1850 to 1900's and probably descendants are still there. Brothers, Henry & James Purdy arrived in Erie Co from Elgin Co. Canada in 1846, they moved on to Sanilac Co, MI sometime during the 1850's. Later on, in 1861 in Erie Co, another brother, John C. PURDY married Frances SWEET, d/o Isaac SWEET & Catherine FOWLER, d/o Morris FOWLER & Catherine SNYDER. John & most of his family, and the Isaac Sweet family, are buried in W. Milgrove cemetery. (I'm unable to find the final resting place of the FOWLER'S) John and Frances PURDY had the following children: William I. b: 1862 m: (1) Nettie Gallagher (2) May FRAZIER Ernestine (Tina), b: 1869 m: (1) Rezin KELLY (2) William STEWART Orson, b: 1866, d: 1968 m: Ruby Rudder Leselle, b: 1879 I believe there may be descendants of Tina & Wm Stewart in Erie Co, possibly Kelly descendants too. If any of these surnames are familiar, or if you have ancestral information I am happy to share my research. I know that the parents of Henry, James & John were Obadiah & Priscilla PURDY, who also emigrated from Elgin Co, Ontario, Canada. I've been unable to find out what happened to Obadiah (said to have been a lock-tender in Huron, OH) Ozzi Oz@peganet.com

It was discussing the goal of having at least one barn in each county with the Bicentennial logo painted on it. The search for barns continues. Call 888-644-6200. To date there are 12 done. However, I wonder how those of us interested in Ohio history could contribute. Are there people writing updated county histories (1900s)? The article said AT & T is funding a six- to 12-hour video to be used in classrooms in the state. Stephen George is the executive director of the Ohio Bicentennial Commission. There are regional coordinators: Central OH is Carmelita Boyer, office at the Statehouse; Southeast is Nichola Moretti, office in Lancaster: Northwest is Beth Hansen, office provided by United Auto Workers Local 12; Northeast is Jennifer Maringo, office in downtown Cleveland paid for by East Ohio Gas. Southwest Ohio coordinator has not been hired yet. Office will be at Cincinnati's Cinergy Field. Anyone looking for a job? If anyone on the list is interested in seeing what they could do to contribute, email me privately and I will contact the Columbus office for more information. 3. ------------------------------------------------------------------ FORWARDED MESSAGE - Orig: 4-Jan-99 3:36 Subject: grants From: LeaAnn leaann1@bellsouth.net ------------------------------------------------------------------ Maggie, Know anyone eligible for this??? Got it from another list. Found this at Goodman Family Gen. Page at http://members.home.net/dmg0/genecomp.htm The Learning Company Grants for Genealogy Groups The Learning Company's Family Tree Maker product group is pleased to announce its third annual Genealogy Group Grant Program. Hundreds of genealogy groups across the nation are involved in developing new materials and resources which benefit all genealogy enthusiasts. However, many groups with fantastic ideas are limited by financial concerns. The Learning Company recognizes that each genealogy society's project has the potential to impact the overall genealogical community, and we are proud to support the community by providing financial assistance for some of these important projects. Grants to Aid Genealogical Projects The Learning Company will award a total of $20,000 in a number of grants ranging in amount from $500 to $2,500. A panel of professional genealogists and representatives of large national genealogy organizations will select the winning entries. Following are general guidelines for the grants: Your society should be trying to do something special that will make a valuable genealogical contribution. Grants will be given to societies whose projects require additional funds not covered by their dues. Preference will be given to: 1) preservation projects (such as flattening documents and archiving in acid free materials); 2) projects to make otherwise inaccessible records available (microfilming, cataloguing, indexing, etc.); 3) large projects or equipment needs (e.g., purchasing a microfilm reader or computer). 4) projects that convert data from paper or microfilm to electronic format Funds will not be given to help cover operating costs of a society or advertising or promotional costs. -- LeaAnn- Researching, ARTERBURN, BELLOMY, CARSON, COLLINS, DEWEY, FITZGERALD, JAYNES, KELLEY, MOWERY, PFILESTICKER, RICH, SEE, SHOEMAKER, TIPTON, WHEELER http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Valley/8621/ !^NavFont02F07A40007NGHHNA6C3F3 Maggie's World of Courthouse Dust & Genealogy Fever http://www.infinet.com/~dzimmerm/mindex.html *-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-* God Put Me On Earth to Accomplish a Certain Number of Things. In this month's issue are the following articles: Genealogy As Story Writer Thom Foulks in "Family Editorial License" invites genealogists to try his method of making his family history research interesting to family members who usually react with ho-hums to all your hard work. Another Great Library Resource New IIGS (TM) writer Karen Arbogast interviewed the director of the Hamilton County (Ohio) library, one of the only respositories of the complete set of U.S. Census microfilms. No Shelves Here! The Odessa Library is not a paper library! Completely digital, the library's organizers have created a wonderful online resource for German-Russian researchers. Starting Your Research the Right Way There's a right way and a wrong way to begin researching your family history and fortunately there are plenty of online resources to help you get started. Query With Precision Genealogical queries are a great tool---if they are written correctly. Increase your chances of having your query answered by following a few simple rules.
