    2. Maggie Stewart-Zimmerman
    3. ------------------------------------------------------------------ FORWARDED MESSAGE - Orig: 22-Jan-99 5:02 Subject: Re: [OHIO] State Library of Ohio ------------------------------------------------------------------ One of the very best sources of family information is the Ohio State Library. Write to them at State Library of Ohio, 65 Front Street, Columbus, OH, 43215 If you send them a family name and a county name (One family name and one county name per letter) along with a stamped, self-addressed envelope, they will check their indexes for that name in that county and will send you a listing of how many entries they found and what it will cost you to get photocopies of everything. They are extremely reasonable in their pricing and fairly quick with their replies. It's been a while since I used them, but I learned a great deal very quickly from them. You can also get information from the State Library of Ohio by sending the same request of one name per county per letter (as described above) to this e-mail address: <ancestor@winslo.state.oh.us> . Of course, remember to put your name, etc. in the request. They will notify you if they find anything and send you a form online that you print out, sign, and send with a check or money order to the Library address. They tell you how much is owed at the top of the letter usually. Your copies will come in manila envelopes---no need for SASEs. I myself have had good luck with them, though their repsonse time does vary (perhaps due to the time of the year you write)---I have had some VERY fast and good help from them, as well as some slower, but equally as helpful, responses. So, it might be worth a try, anyway. I find it very useful as I have little chance of getting anywhere on my own to research most of the time. Good luck to you! That helps clear things up, I think I can post my towns page now.... I talked to some members this past Tuesday at our meeting, and they said Fishack was once a little community back in in the Gypsum Mines days... "Fishack, was part of Portage Township years ago. This was a little spot on the back waters of East Harbor, Flowing back towards Port Clinton.Back in this little area were some small dwellings that consisted mostly of Black people. They were fishermen and the dwellings were very poorly constructed. So the Name "FISHACK" was because,Black People were noted fishermen and their homes, were what some would call shacks. This is to my understanding. I know this place existed about 50 years ago. I don't think there is any kind of artifacts left to mark this area. Things have change over the years." Thanks again for all of your help and your QUICK responses!!! We have a page listing the Ottawa County cemeteries and addresses if you are interested: http://www.rootsweb.com/~ohoccgs/cemetery.html Sincerely, Pam Owens 1999 Vice President Ottawa County Genealogical Society !^NavFont02F048E0007NGHHK90EC66 Maggie's World of Courthouse Dust & Genealogy Fever http://www.infinet.com/~dzimmerm/mindex.html *-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-* God Put Me On Earth to Accomplish a Certain Number of Things.
