    3. In your post, you asked for a lookup of an obituary for Henry L Griffin in Sandusky Register, 16 Nov 1907, pg 3, col 2. I searched that page and the paper for that date and could not locate the article. Where did you find that pg and col listing? I located a Horace Sheldon, born Mass, d 8 June 1906 at the age of 86. He died in the Erie County Infirmary which is now the Erie County Care Facility. It lists 'no known relatives'. There is also a Mary A Hushour Sheldon, w/o Henry Sheldon, d 16 May 1940. There is an obituary for her in the Bloomville Gazette and the Advertiser Tribune. There is another Mary Sheldon d 23 Aug 1899 at the age of 56 in Sandusky. Hope this helps........let me know if you would like me to lookup anything further for you. jb Janis Burke Erie County Chapter, OGS Sandusky, Erie County, OH --Original--- Need Obit for Henry L. 2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/1VB.2ACE/888.896 Message Board Post: Susan, Hope to connect with you as you posted over 2 years ago. My family line comes from Valentine Ferdinand Seubert and Margaretha Urich/Uhrich/Ulrich. ?sp? We knew he was married before but not to who. Thanks for the information on Marianne Krug. Valentine had a son Louis when he married Margaretha, who was born in New York in 1848. Louis never married and died in Perkins, Ohio in 1883. His occupation was listed as a saddler. His death certificate lists the spelling of his last name as Seibert. I do not think Valentine and Marianne had any other children but there were a lot of years between Louis's birthdate and when Marianne died in 1855. Valentine and Margaretha had 4 children. Amelia A., b. 1859 - Ferdinand Valentine, b. 1861 - Elizabeth, b. 1865 & Theressa Margaret, b. 1866. The name of Seubert was changed to Seibert during this generation. All the girls married and Ferdinand V. used the spelling of Seibert. Valentine's civil war records listed his occupation as a butcher. Hope his helps. I am very interested in any additional info you may have on Valentine F. I thank you for the birth date and town in Germany. We always thought he came from Baden. My uncle, Glenn Seibert still lives near Elyria and between him and my father they were the ones who did all this research. He says he will try and find any info on Marianne Krug for you. I will pass it on. If you would like I can send you details of death, etc. on my line. Just let me know. Again, thanks! Joann Seibert Hoegler Parkman, Ohio

    1. Re: [OHErie] Bates, Birmingham
    2. Dear Beth, I forwarded your message to my Dad who grew up in the area during the 50s, and this is what he had to say: Shelly, Yes I knew Red Bates. Do not know what his real first name was. He did live in a little house (shack) on Dean road, Birmingham. It could have been Edward, but not sure. I will do some checking for you on that. It may be of some interest to her that he was the first wooley bear forcaster when it was founded in Birmingham........Love Dad I hope this helps you. As he said, he will do a little digging for you. I'm sure you know that the wooley bear is what the local folk in that area call the monarch butterfly caterpillar (the black and brown ones). I think I even remember seeing Mr. Bates give his prediction for the winter's weather once when I was little. Supposedly, the longer the black part is in relation to the brown head and tail, the worse the winter will be. The name is very familiar to me, and I associate it with the annual Wooley Bear Festival (which is now held in Vermilion). I will forward any thing he comes up with to you. Good Luck! 2. Hi, I am wondering if there is anyone on the list that can remember a "Red" Bates who lived in Birmingham in the 1950s. He is supposed to be related to our family and am hoping the connection will bring me more information. I am wondering what his real name was, his parents names and his place of buriel. Can anyone remember him - he used to live in a very small house on Dean Rd close to 113. Thanks Beth This message was written using Web Email from ACC http://www.accnorwalk.com

    2. Like many others on this list I to volunteer my time and do look ups. I'm told a lot of time I go overboard on what is asked of me. The only problem that I have ever experienced is that we are all volunteers we don't ask for anything in return but we would appreciate the people we do look ups for to at least take a second and write to us and let us know that what we spend in copies, postage, gas and time that they have at least received the info that we send. that's all we ask. Thanks Laura Miller

    3. Although I do not live in Erie Co.and records are not easily obtained for me to do lookups, I always "lurk" around the list to view what is being posted. From what I see, there are many people on this list that go above and beyond to help those of us that need it. I have many family names in Erie Co. and many contacts. If I see something that may help someone make contacts, etc. I always forward the message to that person or try to respond myself. To those of you who offer your help and your time, thank you. I'm sure I'm not alone in knowing you do a great job and appreciate your efforts in making this a great list!

    3. I have recently subscribed to the Erie list, with my interest in HARRIS, GEER and HORNER families. I have recent immeasurable assistance and many ideas of where I can next search. I am very grateful to all who have send even the smallest tidbit. I've noted that each message has been send to the list as well as directly to me, so that the other listers can possibly benefit from learning of available resources. Perhaps ''penardy" could repost interests and/or problems to see if others can help. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] <[email protected]> To: [email protected] <[email protected]> Date: Tuesday, October 22, 2002 11:26 AM Subject: [OHErie] List >Is this all this list does is post messages and no one answers them> PLEASE >unsubscribe me. 3. It is very sad that you feel the list members do not answer posted messages. As you can see by the To: and CC: lines, when I answer , I send it to the list with a CC copy to the person asking for information. Over the past three months, I have completed lookups and research for 17 individual requests. At the present time, I can not recall what your question was but most likely it was something I could not answer. Therefore I didn't answer. There are so many wonderful members on this list that take their time to research and help others. If you do not feel there is value in being a member of this list, then it is your choice to unsubscribe. I wish you well in your research. 3. Yes, they do get answers, and I have seen many questions answered over my time on the list. The key is to be patient. Sometimes the information is not out there right away, and as the messages are all archived, it is possible for someone later to view it and contact you directly! However, if you want to unsubscribe, you must do it yourself by sending your email to [email protected] and typing only the word unsubscribe in the body.
