    1. [OHErie] Re: Records for Venice, Erie County, Ohio
    2. Thanks Janis! From what I have found out, St. Mary's records only go back to the 1880's. I have sent for the microfilm records of Holy Angels Church, as they have records that go back to the 1840's. The microfilm was ordered from the Center for Archival Collections in Ohio. I am hoping to find something there. Again, thanks for your help Janis! Bill O'Loughlin

    2. In a message dated 3/27/2003 12:39:04 AM Eastern Standard Time, [email protected] writes: > If this Catherine is in your tree, please advise me. Catherine is > the daughter of Jacob Stuckey. Jacob is the brother to my > GGrandfather Capt Henry Stuckey. jb > Hello Janis: Yes! Jacob's wife was Magdalena Schied. Her brother, Peter, was my GGGrandfather. The Schied family, who arrived in America in 1851, came from Bruchweiler-Bärenbach in Germany, and I've traced them back to the early 1500s, Do you know where the Stuckey family came from in Bavaria? I assume the name was spelled differently in Germany, perhaps Stucke or Stucki? I've just started researching the family, and the earliest record I found for the family in Sandusky was the 1850 Census: John and Magdalena and 7 children. Jacob and Magdalena's other daughter, Barbara, married Philip Rey, and they had 4 children. The 1880 census mentions a Joseph Stuckey, grandson, living with the family, but I don't yet know who his parents were. I just recently found the Linder name from the April 23, 1915 obituary of Catherine's mother, which mentions Joseph as a son, not a grandson. I have had no luck finding the Linder family on the 1900 or following censuses, unless I missed it. Also, thank you very much for the City Directory entries for the Linder family. I would very much appreciate any info you have on the Stuckey/Linder families that you would be willing to share. If you are interested in the Schied family, I'll be glad to send you whatever I have. According to my relationship calculator, Catherine Linder and I are first cousins, three times removed, which I guess is barely a relation! Thanks again for you help. Paul C. Miller

    1. [OHErie] Records for Venice, Erie County, Ohio
    2. Janis Burke
    3. Bill: I checked the birth and death records at the Erie County Probate Court from 1838-1908 and found nothing. I also searched the marriage records in the Probate Court, Vol 1 1838-1919 and could not locate any records for Thomas Fennessey and Anna Tuberty. With Venice, located in Margaretta Township, I would think they would attend St Mary's Catholic Church in Sandusky. Depending on where in Venice they lived, they may have been closer to Sandusky County line and then could have attended a Fremont Catholic Church. If so, you will need to check with Sandusky County for those records. As for your question on why they would leave Ireland and homestead in Venice....I have no clue. Erie County was settled by a strong German immigrant population. That is not to say there weren't Irish as well as other nationalities but perhaps someone else on this list could answer that for you. My name is very Irish but my family and surname are German. Let me know if you need further research. jb Janis Burke Sandusky, Erie County, OH Erie County Chapter, OGS. | I have a relative with the name of Mary Fennessey that was born 1850/1851 in | Venice, Ohio. 3. Source : Sandusky, OH Register, December 1, 1897, p. 3, col. 3 Rachael Gary Haley died Thursday morning, Nov. 25 at 6:30 o'clock, at the home of her son, F.A. Haley, at the age of 81 years, 8 months and 3 days. Rachael Haley was born in Liberty, Fairfield county, O., March 22, 1816. She was united in marriage to George Haley, January 1, 1835, to whom were born ten children, five sons and five daughters, husband and one son having preceded her in death. She was converted in her early youth and lived a faithful and devoted Christian life. She endured uncomplainingly the hardships and privations of a pioneer itinerant minister's wife, having the entire control and care of the family most of the time, as her husband was absent from home most of the time in his early ministry. When first married, she with her husband went into the woods, cut down trees and built a log house. Many a time the wolves would come and look in at the door. In 1864 she came to Huron, and has lived here ever since. For over 40 years she was quite deaf, yet sh! e has never complained of her misfortune. She leaves nine children, 50 grand children and 33 great grand children and many friends to mourn their loss, which is her gain. Her funeral took place Saturday afternoon at 1 o'clock at the Evangelical church of which she was a member. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. J.G. Ziegler of Sandusky, assisted by Rev. A.H. Wendt. Relatives from abroad in attendance were : W.W. Haley, Marion, O.; Mr. and Mrs. J.L. Smith, Lorain, O.; Mr. and Mrs. A. Gegenheimer, Mrs. C. Easterday, and Mrs. J.J.
