    3. Ok I'll let you know when I find a connection. 3. Thanks for your reply. Yeah I have some collateral relations who were born in Huron and died in Erie and Lorain but thats about it. I know that my grandpa had a Wilhelm cousin who was a mayor of Put-in-Bay. I'm sure you know I have family connections in Cuyahoga since I posted in there and see your posts from there often. Anyways I'll have a lot more digging to do just to find out who their parents were. I remember my grandma mentioning Esther (Vail)s mother's name but forgot to write it down. Will ask her for more info. I have a cousin on my dads side who's also descended from Wm Brewster but then again so are a lot of people. Well I hope you get your responses soon I have never dealt with Erie County before but I know first hand that Huron is a first-rate place for finding your ancestors. Too bad they couldnt just move to Norwalk or something lol. --Andrew ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, April 15, 2003 10:39 PM Subject: Re: [OHErie] Huron & Mayflower lines > I can't help with much in Huron -- only a couple of collateral folks there. 2. I can't help with much in Huron -- only a couple of collateral folks there. I will look in my database just to be certain -- old age, I can't remember all of the names right off. I have lots of Dempsey's in Ohio back in the early 1800s in several counties and some Pettigrew's and Cutler's around the same time frame. I do have eight ancestors who arrived on the Mayflower, so we could look for a connection there. I'm not related as far as I know to the Brewster's. I may have a book with some information on them, don't know offhand, but I have about 50 books on Mayflower connections, so there has to be something. Tons of stuff online of course. If you want to send me your line off the list I will be happy to see what I can find. The first 5 generations are pretty much done for us. Most of the family (not the Mayflower bunch) came from Sicily to Sandusky, Ohio and then to Cleveland. I have lots of information on the family once they were in Cleveland, but I am missing a few documents still. Had one family in So. Amherst, Lorain County, and then they moved to Cleveland. I am still missing one birth record there, that has proven elusive. One Aunt is still living, but for the others I have birth, marriage, death certs, obits, naturalization papers for all that were born in Sicily and photo's of all their graves and of homes they lived in, plus an assortment of other documents like hobbies, work, and just about anything else I could locate. Just the Sandusky bunch needs documentation. Sent money to St. Joseph's Cemetery in Sandusky in December 2002. They promptly cashed the check but no response to date. I am still hoping the something will arrive. Sent a request to Calvary Cemetery in Cleveland the same day and within a week I got back five documents and my check. Found a great-great grandmother that I never knew came to America. Genealogy is not a project for anyone who needs to see a finish to their work. Happy researching, Sharon in So. CA

    1. [OHErie] List Admin. - mail bounces to you. Apology to list.
    2. Sorry to post this to the list, but three emails to the list administrator have all bounced. Is it possible to ask Laura Miller to stop her post of lies about on this list. I am tired of less than the truth being posted. This is really enough. I have received many supportive responses privately and feel this should not be on the list. One, not so nice person, asked what is the rush? I try not to air my problems on the lists, but after May 19 I may have no vision. THAT is MY rush. I am not asking for sympathy. I have been doing research since I was 12 -- just turned 65 and have over 200,000 names in my database. All information is documented. I cannot come to Ohio at this time to do research. That is why I asked for a lookup. When Laura said she could do more I was elated. I made it clear from the beginning that I expected to pay and that the $50.00 was just to get her started. After the 21 obits...nothing! Below some of Laura's posts to me and one from a researcher you will recognize (sorry, I should have asked your permission first) showing Laura wrote her for direction in getting information and documents. Here are the resources I have available at Sandusky Library:  city directories going back to 1855, cemetery records on microfilm, obit's the paper dates back to 185? and goes through the present, census records, more books about people in the city then you can imagine.  I also know all the girls in the genealogy area so I am one of the few who is allowed to go into the basement and dig for records.  Across the street from the library is the courthouse, where I can get copies of probate records and marriage licenses.  And of course downtown at the health department I can get copies of birth and death certificates.  I'll get started on what I have now and go from there.  When I go to see my sister-in-law in Cleveland I can check into the information that they have at the library. I hope this will help you fill in the gaps. Laura Miller Sharon, I have a lot of lookups to do for a few people and will be going to the library next week if you'd like I'll check and see what I can find out for you. Laura Miller 2/6/03 Sharon, Just wanted to let you know that I received the check today.  Thank You so very much.  I also have a manilla envelope going out to you tomorrow afternoon with some obit's and things I have found so far.  Please let me know when you get this.  Thanks again I will be sending more out next week, but will tell you before each package goes out so that you can watch for it. How much does it cost to get the information I need? Is it anything like the library where I can just dig through some books?  Thanks for your help. Laura Miller Now that sure doesn't sound like a person who 'has connections in Sandusky to places few researchers are allowed to go'.  Hope that someone can answer these questions about her or that she will contact you.  Strange too, that she would change her email address and not notify the people she  has been paid to help.  FYI, if she researched any records in the Court House, birth, death marriage before 1908, and made copies, the cost......10 cents per copy. You use the copy machine right there in the office and it is an honor system! Obituaries copies at the library are the same....10 cents per copy.  Birth and death uncertified copies from the health dept are $2.00 each.  Not sure what you paid but I think you can kiss that good bye.  I'm hoping that she will come through for you. This type of action has such a negative reaction on all researchers. We are here to help.  Let me know if there is anything I can do further.  (researchers name) Sandusky, Erie Co, OH Erie County Chapter, OGS There were responses from others, some saying she or her mother had done research for them.  They said Laura often promised cemetery pictures but all said they never received them. Most were happy with the other research they did. Laura never contacted me again, even after my post to the list   Her mother did and was angry, but when I sent her copies she did not respond. Laura can email me all she wants, but I feel it is very unfair of her to send these lies to the list.  Others in Sandusky have done research for me and they know the truth, that I always pay (unless some very small lookup) and I always say thank you -- even when the person didn't find anything.  You can view my post to this list is your archives, as you know. Hopeful of a quick resolution to this problem. Happy Easter (or Passover) and God Bless America. Sharon in So. CA

    3. I would like to jump in here as well. I have benefitted from Laura's assistance a great deal. She is VERY competent and I have the utmost confidence in her. I would hate to see her quit because of someone who is clueless. To this person who hadn't heard from her since February--what's the rush?? Research takes time--lots of time. If it takes 6 months to hear back, so what? Believe me, our ancestors aren't going anywhere and if it's taking awhile, then maybe she's hit a roadblock she is trying to get around for you. She does research for many people and believe me, you are not her priority. She does have a life and family. Laura never asked me for a dime. She did it all of her own accord. If you did send her money (which I believe you said was not asked for but, as you put it, "hinted at") then consider it well spent. Especially now that she's had to put up with a character assasination. 1. Re: [OHErie] Thank You
    2. Laura, I posted to the list ONLY because YOU stopped reading or responding to my emails. Until now there has been not one word of explanation from you. You know nothing in MY post was a lie and as of today you have not had the courtesy to respond and to why you stopped doing the research I paid you for -- no response from you since Feb 2003 when you received $50.00 from me and sent only 21 obits and promises of more to come. You told me you changed your email address, however I see you are still using the one you used when you originally contacted me. I have copies of all your correspondence with me and from others who contacted me privately. I do not wish to publicize them but you and I both know the truth. This should be conducted in private, not on the list. My apologies to the list. Sharon in So. CA

    1. [OHErie] RESEARCH
    2. LAURA, I DO NOT KNOW YOU BUT COMMEND YOU FOR TRYING TO HELP INCONSIDERATE AND UNGRATEFUL PEOPLE. AT TIMES I HOP ON THIS SITE, SINCE I LIVE IN SANDUSKY, AND WILL HELP SOMEONE. I ALWAYS CHOSE SOMEONE THAT IS NOT ASKING FOR AN ARM OR A LEG!! JUST A FEW BASICS I.E DEATH CERTIFICATE, PICTURE OF A TOMBSTONE. I MUST SAY THAT OUT OF THE ONES I HAVE HELPED HAVE HAD ONLY 2 OR 3 THAT WERE UNGRATEFUL. WHEN ANY OF US SEE A PLEA FOR HELP ON THE SCREEN FROM SOMEONE THAT LIVES FAR AWAY OUR HEART GOES OUT AND WANTS TO HELP THEM, HOPING SOMEDAY SOMEONE WILL RETURN THE FAVOR. THEY FORGET THAT WE DO NOT ASK FOR MONEY FOR DOING THIS AND THAT WE HAVE LIVES, FAMILIES AND GENEALOGY OF OUR OWN TO DO. SO I DO NOT BLAME YOU ONE BIT FOR BACKING OFF. IF AND WHEN THIS HAPPENS TO ME I WILL DO THE SAME. SO MANY PEOPLE ARE IN THIS ME-ME-ME SOCIETY - SO LET THEM GO FIND THE INFO THEMSELVES. ENJOY YOUR FREE TIME. PAT CALDWELL

    2. Laura: I don't know you personally, but it is a shame that you decided to stop doing the wonderful things you do to help other people find their families. I wish you all the best, and shame on the person that did the mud-slinging. I'm sure others feel the same way. Good luck, Shari

    1. [OHErie] Thank You
    2. Hello, I just wanted to make a post, I know this is off subject but I guess bashing people on and off line is great for this site. I would like to take a minute and thank everyone that has allowed me the honor of doing research for you over the years. Sometimes successfull and sometimes not. I had a wonderful time and enjoyed very much the privaledge of helping you try to fill in gaps with your family tree. I would just like to let everyone know that I am no longer doing research anymore. A few weeks ago I was publicly drug through the mud, had lies spread about me, and very masty means things said for thousands to read some of you even were nice enough to respond privately to the person who did this and fill this person in on a lot of other things. First of all THANK YOU I will no longer be doing research for Erie County as it has been brought to my attention I have no idea as to how to properly do this. So for all those that I have still been working on finding thing! s as they come along, I will finish that up for you and send it out as quickly as possible. I have taken my name off of all volunteer lists and am asking that I be removed from this list as well. I have enjoyed the last 7 years of doing this. But can no longer take on the responsiblility of doing research as I have been told that I pretty much have no idea what I am doing. THANK YOU all for your time and good luck with your research. Laura Miller
