Was it this Ezra Root who served with the 3rd OVC during the Ciivl War? Or was it one of his sons. You said this Ezra Root was your 4th Great grandfather. MY second great grandfather served with the 3rd OVC and I am trying to locate as many descendants of this unit as possible for a possible reunion in the future. I like to think of us as a "family" of sorts as they were and as they had reunions. What do you think? Janett

He was b. abt. 1830 Connecticut. He married Mary Ann Wright on Oct.27, 1864. They lived in Milan, Erie Co., Ohio. They had 2 daughters: Emma J. and Bertha.
Abraham and Mary (Knapp) VAN SCOY were born in Westchester County, New York, in the late 1700s. In the 1830s they moved to Huron County, Ohio. They were preceded to Huron County, Ohio, by her father Brundage KNAPP and later joined by his first cousins, Cornelius and James Van Scoy. Abraham and Mary Van Scoy's daughter Lidda Ann was born in 1813. She married John FISH in 1833 in Huron County, Ohio. Their daughter Celia Fish married John CHARVILLE. In 1880 John and Celia Charville and their children were living in Oxford Township, Erie County, Ohio. In 1907 descendants of the Van Scoy and Knapp families formed the VanScoy-Knapp Reunion. We met annually until the mid 1960s. This summer we are meeting again in celebration of the bicentennial of Ohio statehood. If you are a descendant of any of these families, please join us in Willard, Ohio, on Saturday, August 16, 2003, for our reunion, or send a note which we can share with those who attend. Good evening Listers! I was wondering if anyone knows where I could find information on the sailors and ship builders out of the Port of Huron in the 1840's. It would appear that my BLOOMER/NELSON family where ship carpenters and sailors on the Great Lakes first out of the Port of Huron and later in the 1850's out of the Port of Detroit. Are there lists of these sailors and ship workers? Thanks for any help, Lynn Dever [email protected] Researching Dever, Littler, Nelson, Barr, Thornton and Sjurset Families

Surnames: Gegenheimer, Bates Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/1VB.2ACE/11431 Message Board Post: Seeking any information on Friederick (Fredric) Gegenheimer and family. Was able to locate them on 1880 census records in Florence township but other than that, I have found very little through online sources. Friederick was born around 1835 in Baden Germany. Married Elizabeth Willich (Wildlich?) of Hesse. Children were August (b.1864), Maria (b.1866), John Conrad (b.1869) and Anna Barbara (b. 1874) Anna married Earl A. Bates, son of Jefferson D. Bates, possibly in Birmingham in 1894. They had 4 daughters, Nora, Neva, Nina and Nola. Nola, my GGrandmother, married Anthony Elbert in 1928. All of the Gegenheimer children I believe were born in Erie County. I have found references through family papers of them being in Florence, Vermillion, Brownhelm, Berlin and Birmingham. I have found several other Gegenheimers in the area and would also be interested as to what their link is to my particular branch, if any.
