    1. [OHDARKE] Esther Strader
    2. Teri Templeton
    3. Does anyone have information on the family of Esther Strader? I have her listed as born about 1820 in Darke County, but she married Daniel Foust before 1842 in Tennessee. They had child Margaret E Foust in Tennessee (b: 19 Nov 1855), who married Daniel W Rex in Darke County and died there. I may have bad information of Esther Strader being born in Darke Cty...but I'd appreciate any information you all might have on this family of Strader's. Thanks, --Teri _________________________________________________________________ Add photos to your messages with MSN 8. Get 2 months FREE*. http://join.msn.com/?page=features/featuredemail

    1. [OHDARKE] George & Sarah Oliver
    2. Teri Templeton
    3. Does anyone have information on George Oliver (b: 1783) and his wife Sarah Oliver (b: 1790)? One of their sons, George Washington Oliver was born in Richland Twp, Darke Cty, Jul 1st, 1825, and I am from this line of Oliver's. George Washington Oliver died Jun 28th, 1904 in Darke Cty. I don't know where George and Sarah Oliver were from, so I thought I'd throw this question out there. Also, George Washington Oliver married Mary S. Carter and they raised a family in Darke Cty. I have no information on Mary Carter's parents, and have her birth date as 1825 and death as 1908. Does anyone have information on this Mary S Carter? Thanks, --Teri _________________________________________________________________ Add photos to your e-mail with MSN 8. Get 2 months FREE*. http://join.msn.com/?page=features/featuredemail

    1. [OHDARKE] One month till ListFest! Y'all come!
    2. Torres, Jane E
    3. Hello All, When: It will soon be upon us! June is the month of the 2003 Annual ListFest - the 4th Greenville get-together of the Darke County List along with any others who are interested in Darke County genealogy! Mark June 21st at the Shawnee Prairie Preserve on your calendars and plan to join us. You will find further particulars at: http://www.dcoweb.org/listfest/listfest.htm What: For those of you who don't know what it is, the ListFest is our yearly opportunity to actually meet those with whom we correspond throughout the year, some of the local authors of the area (who hopefully will be bringing some of their books to sell), and some of the BIG names in Miami Valley genealogy - those who have been so helpful in assisting us find our roots. A few of those well-knowns who regularly attend are Joe Bosserman, Gale Honeyman, Linda McDaniel, Tom Midlam (who is the driving force behind the www.dcoweb.org presentation), Roger Spencer and Becky Stephens who have now published FOUR photographic readings of Darke County cemeteries and are presently working on the next along with the assistance of Michael Reck. You will be able to once again greet those Genealogical Society members who are always so helpful when we visit the Library. All in all, it's REALLY a fun day! Special offer: Last year we had some problems with our name tags. I remember the men putting them through their shirt buttons and the women having a most difficult time finding a place to wear them. This year, if you know that you are coming in enough time, Wayne has volunteered to make us CUSTOM name tags! If you know that you will be attending, send your name and the Darke County surnames that you would like displayed on your nametag. Wayne will add those families that he has room for on the tag and it will be waiting for your arrival at the ListFest. Please rank your families in order of importance to you to have displayed. If you send ten names and there is only room for five, Wayne will use the first five names. SEND YOUR SURNAMES TO WAYNE NICHOLS AT: wayfnic@hotmail.com . For those of you who wait until the last minute to decide, we will have blank nametags for you to fill out when you arrive and this year, I promise, they will STICK! So, please plan to join us at this year's ListFest. Last year Leland Rice set the ALL-TIME record by coming all the way from Italy!!! And, I think that he will attest to the fact that it was well worth the trip! You will be hearing more in the coming four weeks. And, if you are interested in joining the ListFest e-mail list - the planning list to keep up with the latest information, please send your request to me at: jetorres@indiana.edu Hoping to see YOU soon, --Jane

These are group pictures with Merle in them, which leads me to believe these groups are of the Baker family, as Merle had about 10 siblings, including a twin. Merle's parents were David Baker (of Monroe Twp, Darke Co, 1859-1936) and Susannah Troutwine (1862-?) If anyone thinks they may be able to help identify anyone in the Baker family, please let me know. I'd be glad to share the photos. He also wrote the two page interesting obit for my Great-Great-Great Grandfather, Rev. Tobias Kreider (1826-1902)(grandfather of TS Eikenberry)- Sent to me by Marge Royer Denlinger Weeks: (Somebody I know has a desk that has his name written on it from the Church) in 1947-LEVI MINNICH DEAD; PROMINENT FARMER AND CHURCH WORKER Levi Minnich, 86, prominent Darke county farmer, former educator and nationally known church worker, died at 10:50 a.m. today at his rural residence, one mile northwest of Painter Creek in Franklin township. He had been critically ill for the past week. A member of one of the county's pioneer families, he was born and reared in Franklin township and had resided on the farm where death occurred since 1889. His parents were the late Abraham and Elizabeth Swinger Minnich. He received his early education in rural schools near his home and later attended the old Ohio Normal college now Ohio Northern university at Ada. At the age of 20 he began teaching and for nine years served in schools in Franklin township. He later was superintendent of the Gettysburg school. He maintained an active interest in educational affairs throughout his entire life, serving first as a school director in Franklin township and then as a member of the township's first board of education. As a board member he sponsored the idea of a township high school and his efforts led to the erection of the present Franklin township centralized school. A lifelong member of the Church of the Brethren, he was particularly interested in religious training for the young people. He served several years as district Sunday school secretary in southern Ohio and later was elected for two terms of five years each as a member of the national board of the Brethren church. He was a devout attendant of the Painter Creek church of that denomination, where he was Sunday school superintendent for well over a quarter century. An active member of the Republican party in Darke county since young manhood, he was also an ardent dry worker and at one time was a member of the executive committee of the Darke County Local Option League. His immediate survivors include his wife, Susie; one son, Spencer Minnich, of Elgin, Ill.; two daughters, Mrs. T.S. Eikenberry, of Dayton, and Mrs. J.Q. Neher, Gettysburg; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. Henry Groff, of Bradford R.R. His son now serves as secretary of the general board of the Church of the Brethren. Funeral services are to be conducted at the Painter Creek church at two p.m. Saturday. Burial will be in Newcomer's cemetery. Friends may call at the Minnich residence after seven o'clock Thursday evening.
