By 1847 when Joseph was born they were in Allen County, Layfette Township, Indiana. James Smith Born abt 1809 Ohio died March 24 1868 Indiana buried in Nine Mile Cemetery with some of his children. Married Susana Overly in Dec 1830 she was born 1809-1811 Ohio. I do not know when she died. (she was supposed to be buried with James, her name is on the stone but no date for her and records do not reflect that she is buried there. Only James and three children. The tombstone if broken into several pieces. I am planning to have it repaired) Their Children are: Margaret 1831 Ohio Mary Ann 1832 Ohio Sarah 1834 Ohio William 1836 Ohio Brunson 1838 Ohio Charles 1840 Ohio Kisiah 1842 Ohio James W. 1843 Ohio Joseph 1847 Indiana Francis 1849 Indiana Susan 1850 Indiana Henry 1854 Indiana Martha 1857 Indiana Barberry E. unknown Indiana I descend from James W. I have his Civil War Pension record and it states that he was born in Darke County Onio. I have found that there is a marriage record for a Daniel Overly and a Kisiah Smith in Darke County in 1824. I believe that this is likely a sister to my James. Is that who their daughter is named after? Daniel's Kisiah died young I believe, because Daniel was remarried by the next Federal Census ten years later. According to other Overly searchers. Daniel and Kisiah did not appear to have children that I have found do far either. I found information that confirmed that Daniel Overly and Susanah are brother and sister and come from a large family. I have tied all the Overly records in that County that I have found to the same family with the help and research of Overly searcher. I have communicated with a couple of the Overly searchers and they don't know anything about the Smith connection so far...Still waiting a response from one searcher. There is an elder James Smith that shows up in Darke County in the 1820 and 1830 Federal Census records but I can not confirm his childrens names so far. There is also a William Smith. Notice the first male born was a William Smith.... James and Susana's daughter, Kisiah died at age 20 (young adult). Barberry died young (as an infant) and as I recall so did Charles died young too but I do not remember the age.. James died in 1868 and they are all buried in the cemetery at Nine Mile in Pleasant Township.

Hello All, I'm extremely pleased to announce that our friend Billy Baker has added another year to the already huge number of obituaries from the Union City newspaper! This file now covers seven years of obituaries from 1935 to 1941. The content reaches far beyond the Union City community so be sure to check to see if any of your family is in the files. Remember, there are thousands of names in addition to those in the decedent indexes so be sure to use your Find feature on your browser when you are on an obituary page. The obituaries can be searched from the search box on the home page of www.dcoweb.org (then use your Find once on the page) or you can go directly to the Union City Obituaries home page, www.dcoweb.org/randolph/UCobits/ and click through the indexes. Remember, this only indexes the decedents. Once again, a huge Thank You to Billy! Happy Hunting, --Jane P.S. Since I'm from Union City, having these at my fingertips must be similar to being in heaven!

Dear CREAGER/KRIEGER and the many variant surnamed individuals who may be descendants going by these surname variations: CRAGER, CREAGOR, CREEGER, CREGAR,CREGER, CREGGAR, CREGGER, CREGOR,CREIGER, CREIGHER, CRIGER, CRIGGER, CRUGAR, KREAGER, KREEGER, KREGEAR, KREIGER, KREIGER, KRIEGAR, KRÜGER, KRËGER, KRIJGER, KRUEGER, KRÖGER, KROEGER, KRYGER, etc. My CREAGER family descends from Hans Ernst Krieger, immigrant from Germany, and his descendants. The name was changed along the line to CREAGER. Some family members went from Maryland to Montgomery Co., OH and then to Darke Co., OH where my father was born. I don't know if anyone is interested, but I would be willing to initiate and establish a Y-DNA Project for those descendants bearing one of the above surnames or variant surname. In order to "Jump Start" this project, I must have at least 6 (SIX) individuals (presently have 4) who indicate an interest in this project. I must have this number before I can apply to the FamilyTree DNA company for special pricing. For additional information, I have established a website with numerous links to various informational pages. If there is no interest, then we will not proceed further. The only drawback is that the person being tested must be a MALE, bearing one of the CREAGER/KRIEGER or variant surnames...as the Y-DNA gene is passed from father to son through the generations. If you are female researcher, perhaps a brother, husband, uncle, grandfather, son, etc. bearing one of the variant CREAGER/KRIEGER surnames could be tested in your stead. Either of these URLs will take you to the Project's Homepage: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~grannyapple/CREAGER-KRIEGERetc%20DN A/CREAGER-KRIEGERetc%20DNA%20HOME.html or http://tinyurl.com/l16n Audrey AudreyShieldsHancock@att.net or grannyapple@att.net
Some of these sources might be helpful. The MVGI requires searching by any spelling variation you can think of. Mane, Manes, Main, Mains are a few that I tried and each brings up a few hits for your surname. The Darke Co. web page has some census years transcribed, including 1840 although that one is not searchable other than reading through all of it. Preble Library has a great deal of information on surrounding counties and will do paid research. I am researching Silas and Freelove Wiggins Manes. I am looking for any information on either family. Silas was born in 1816 in Tennessee, but I have not found parents or siblings for him. Freelove Wiggins Manes was born in 1816 in Kentucky. She belongs to the huge Archibald Wiggins family. Any information on any Manes living in Darke County approximately 1840 would be appreciated. The family moved to Indiana. They had a total of nine children. I believe Silas to have remarried a woman named Mahala because he is listed in Preble County in the 1870 census. I am wondering if Freelove died and he remarried. They had three sons in the Civil War and two of them died in that war. Thank you, L.B. Hartley

Donna May Conner Hollister, July 20, 1927 - August 22, 2003 Friends, Mom passed quietly Friday, August 22, surrounded by her children, many of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and her minister. She left us surrounded by love just as she was in life. I took a leave to help with her care this past week. I would not have had it any other way. Hospice was wonderful, but Pam and I felt we wanted to do the everyday caring for her ourselves. The nurses, doctors, chaplins all gave such wonderful support, shared every little thing we could expect, what it meant, why it was happening, and where to expect it in her process of dying. It made her passing easier on us, and in turn, easy on her. We could tell her what was happening to her and that it was OK, nothing to be afraid of. One of her last lucid days, she joked that she hoped Jesus would come take her to heaven on a cruise ship! OHDARKE listers, Donna was a descendant of Richard Conner sp Elizabeth Brandon > Squire Conner sp Martha Jane Elliott > Amos Conner sp Louisa Blotner > daughter of Charles George Conner sp Ethel Irene Reeves. Pam and I had a whole night's sleep last night, The first good sleep in many weeks. We'll be in touch later. Sandi
