Is anyone researching the above family? Although my Stephen A. GOODALE states he was b. in 1851 I keep coming back to this family as on his death certificate it gives name of father as Oren. Stephen named his daughter Laura Anna and son William Jesse. He married Paulina "Lena" WATSON of Kentucky but may have been married before in 1874 Holt Co., Mo. to Susanah BEAN. Stephen was a carpenter by trade and is listed in the St. Joseph, Buchanan Co., Mo. directory along with Oren and Henry GOODALE, all carpenters in the late 1880's. Stephen died in 1926 in Downey, Los Angeles, California. This is about all of the information I have concerning my ggGrandfather and would love to connect him with a GOODALE family. I'm hoping someone can suggest search sites or have suggestions as to how to go about either adding him to the above family or totally eliminating him from this family. The index on-line for Monroe Twp., Darke Co., Ohio web site 1850 Census doesn't even list the above family..there are mentions of a Jas. GOODALE however. I found Oren and Lucy in the Ancestry 1850 Census images. Any help and suggestions are appreciated. Thanks, Marie An incompetent attorney can delay a trial for months or years. 1. [OHDARKE] Announcement: BRICKER SURNAME DNA PROJECT
    2. The various Bricker families in the U.S. and Canada today descend from immigrants of different faiths who arrived here from Switzerland, Germany, France, Britain, and Eastern Europe. Some of us know who those immigrants were by having either inherited or created our own family trees on paper, sometimes stretching our family origins back as far as to the 1500s. Others among us are aware of our Bricker roots only going back as far as parents or grandparents. By taking advantage of recently-affordable technology, however, together we can now help clarify our roots by having scientists read the genetic record that half of us carry within us, in our Y-chromosome DNA. Just like the Bricker last name, an exact or nearly exact copy of a man's "Y" chromosome is passed on, generation after generation from father to son. In that way, a male Bricker living today may have a "genetic signature" unchanged or very little changed from that which his direct Bricker ancestors had hundreds of years ago. And there's a very high likelihood that men who today share both the same last name and the same or similar genetic signature also share the same ancestor from some point in the past. By submitting a small sample of his Y-chromosome (no needles or blood sample necessary!) for analysis to a lab specializing in "genetic genealogy", men over 18 years old who were born with the Bricker surname can participate in this Project, to track Bricker family lines by finding out which among us share common ancestors and genealogies. While only Bricker men may directly contribute a sample of their Y-chromosome for use in this project, your help is also very much needed if you are married to such a Bricker, or have a living brother, father, son, or paternal grandfather, uncle, or male first cousin who is a Bricker by birth. Please pass on this email message to him, and encourage his participation if the Project goals interest you. In fact, you may want to forward this email to any of your Bricker relatives who you think might be interested, and encourage them to visit our webpage as well. The more that participate, more use this project will be to everyone participating! For further information on the Project, please visit the webpage at: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~bricker/index.htm If you are at all interested in pinning down with more certainty who your Bricker ancestors were, and even possibly extending your family line as far back as your European roots, your participation in this BRICKER Surname DNA Project can potentially help you with these goals. Sincerely, Dale Bricker Interim Project Coordinator BrickerDNA@yahoo.com

Surnames: Shenefelt, Burns Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/0VB.2ACE/249.1.1 Message Board Post: Jeff - Thank you very much for all of this information. I am sure that my ancestor is Elizabeth Burns who married Frederick Shenefelt or Shonefield. I have a slight problem with this line, though - outlined below. If you can help me or know anyone who can - please let me know. Here is my Shenefelt family. Frederick Shenefelt b. 1791 son of John Shenefelt and Elizabeth Shenefelt (cousins) d.22 Jan 1852 m. before 1819 Elizabeth Burns b. about 1795 of Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania daughter of Henry Burns of Darke Co., Ohio Children: John Burns Shenefelt b.24 Dec 1819 d. 15 Nov 1909 Susanna Shenefelt b. 24 Aug 1821 d. 8 May 1842 Abraham B. Shenefelt 22 Dec 1824 d 3 Aug 1880 Isaac Shenefelt b.1 Feb 1829 d.23 Jan 1903 Nancy Shenefelt b.19 October 1830 d. 1 Dec 1891 Margaret Shenefelt b. 29 Sept 1832 d. 20 July 1918 Sarah Ann Shenefelt b. 2 Dec 1834 d. 21 March 1918 Here is the problem. There are 6 other children that belong to Frederick Shenefelt and second wife Mary. Their oldest is Mary Ann Shenefelt b. 15 Jan 1836 in Huntingdon Co., Pa. (I have her obit that gives her birth date and says her 1/2 sisters were Sarah and Margaret.) So that means Elizabeth Burns apparently died between 2 Dec 1834 and April 1835. However - Elizabeth Burns was named in her father's estate distribution in Darke County, Ohio on April 17, 1838 as the wife of Frederick Shonafield. Is it possible that her answer to the court was received earlier and just posted on April 17, 1838? I have been unable to find a tombstone for Elizabeth or a marriage date for Frederick to Mary. I have other information that supports the fact that Elizabeth died but these dates don't seem to make sense with the other information. Thanks for all your help. Linda

Start with the present and work your way backwards. Tax and deed records (recorder's office) will help you with ownership. Wills and estate records may also provide clues. It's possible the original property may have been added to or divided up (between heirs) at some point in time. There are even occasions when the actual house itself has been moved to a different location. Yolanda Campbell Lifter ylifter@ohiofamilyresearch.com

    1. [OHDARKE] John and Mary Hole
    2. Does anyone have anything on John Hole (1798-1852) and his wife Mary (1806-1855)? John was said to have been born in New Jersey. Mary born in Ohio. They were probably married before 1822, maybe in Hamilton County, Ohio, from which they moved to Mercer County, Ohio, around 1833. They are buried in Mercer County. I am in the process of compiling the Holes from Columbiana County, Ohio to the Hamilton, Montgomery, Darke and Mercer Counties area of Ohio. I believe John and Mary are a part of this line, but he is not one of the John Holes that has been researched and much has been written about(such as John Ludlow Hole, son of Dr. John Hole, who was born in the same year). This John appears to have been quite obscure. I am seeking both his parentage and his wife's. Children include: Peter, Susan, George, Selathial, Cyrus, Elizabeth?, Mary? and Lucinda. More than one member of this family married Wyatts. Thanks for any help. Chuck

    1. [OHDARKE] Billy's done it again!
    2. Torres, Jane E
    3. Hello All, Billy Baker has now added another partial year to the already huge numbers of obituaries from the Union City Evening Times and the Union City Times-Gazette. This set of pages now covers from June 1934-Dec. 1941, approximately 2,375 obituaries! What a job he has done!! Remember that this newspaper coverage reaches well into Darke County as well as Randolph County. You can now do a keyword search from the Obituaries Information page: http://www.dcoweb.org/randolph/UCobits/index.html Be inventive with your searches. For example, my dad worked at the Backstay Welt Co. in Union City. I searched Backstay and came up with eleven hits - often not the actual decedent but relatives of dad's co-workers. Most were names that I remember and am interested in knowing more about. Now don't say this too loudly, but I've heard that this may be the end of the line for Billy's UC obituary contributions. He told me that he would transcribe from June 1934 (the first microfilmed newspaper) through the end of 1941, which he has now completed. He has certainly earned: 1) a well deserved rest from his labors; and 2) my unending gratitude for transcribing all of these obituaries from our home town! Thanks again Billy! Now kick back in that easy chair!!! --Jane Torres
