    1. [OHDARKE] Preble County Records
    2. Susan Kendall
    3. Good afternoon, I am pleased to announce that we have made available the first 50 years of Preble County marriage images (1808-early 1859) available in a database format. Simply enter a surname (even a few letters) and a hit list of entries appear providing the year, record type and a hot link to the actual image. Now you can see and print out a copy from the original! Eventually it will continue various record types. Go to our genealogy page : http://www.pcdl.lib.oh.us/genealogy/index.htm Choose under Preble County Sources : Genealogical & Historical Records of Preble County Search hints and information about the codes used are provided on the first page. If we were uncertain of a spelling, it was entered a variety of ways. Check back often. We have already scanned images into the early 1900s and are working on the index. As both are complete data will be added. Susan -- Susan H. Kendall, Director Preble County District Library 450 S. 1. [OHDARKE] Billy's Valentine
    2. Torres, Jane E
    3. Happy Valentine's Day to All! Just in the nick of time for Valentine's Day, I have mounted on DCOWeb.org Billy Baker's latest gift to the Darke Co./Randolph Co. researchers! While he was transcribing the obituaries from the Union City Evening Times and the Union City Times-Gazette, he also transcribed the marriage license applications that were published in the newspaper between June 1934 and Dec. 1941. There are 1,738 applications which were made in Winchester, IN. They cover people from a wide geographical area. The paper published the names and ages of the applicants, their occupations, and their places of residence. Remember that these are only applications - probably some of the marriages didn't take place. So, as Billy says in the introduction, the application listing should be used as another "clue" and the Court Records should be checked. Again, I'm very grateful to Billy for all of his hard work and dilligence with his projects to aid us in our research! Hope you all have a Great Day! --Jane http://randolph.dcoweb.org/UCmarlic1.htm

    1. [OHDARKE] William Brock????
    2. June E. Hulit
    3. Hi Folks: Well the winter cold in North Central OH and snows lets one get absorbed in "search mode"....I got Family Tree for a Christmas present so am trying to put all the info I got into the program and into "the (computer) "puter." AND trying to do research too. Have not learned how about all the Bells and Whistles that came with this program, but am working on it. Anyhow --- I sent a request to DAR because I think I recall (as a child) my grandmother receiving DAR periodicals. Anyhow the research is still going on but the name/my question is: William Brock. There were some Brocks in Clark County but there are some in Darke County also (especially since a cemetery is named Brock) ---- does anyone know of a William Brock that might have been in the Revolutionary War? Just curious. June E. Hulit kerryoh@sssnet.com Wooster, OH

    1. RE: [OHDARKE] Fake eBay????
    2. Thomas Anderson
    3. More and more scams are out there, and the current thing is to design these web sites which are impossible to tell from the real ones. If you receive mail from any of them, asking for personal information, do not respond. Some are coming from AOL, banks, department stores etc. and they want credit card numbers or other such data and say you must update, or your account will be dropped. No legitimate company is going to do this. If in doubt, phone them to be sure. We received notice last week of fake e-mail that had come out allegedly from SBC Yahoo, parent company for Prodigy. Entirely unrelated to computers, I will pass along something that is happening in the Phoenix area. Cars are being broken into expressly for the purpose of stealing the registration as it generally contains social security numbers. This is being used for identity theft. No doubt this is going on in many parts of the country, so avoid carrying that information in your car if you possibly can. If at all possible, do not have your S.S. number on your driver's license either. Also, with the cell phones that can take pictures--they say be aware of your surroundings when you write checks or use credit cards in the stores because people can use those phones to steal info. as well.
