Hi List, I did order the $3.50 death certificate (not certified) and received it very quickly and it was a clear copy. Honest seller. Marlaina Barr
I am still hoping for some new info on my Abraham L. Baker's family from Palestine, Darke County, Ohio. I will share any info I have also. Still searching, Nancy Breuer in Texas
You know...we've all had days like this and I expect tomorrow to be a repeat. For some reason *some* of book 4 images are not appearing. That results in a bad link. We are removing the index links to book 4 so as not to confuse people. Book 5 appears OK. I'll let you know when book 4 is back. Susan -- Susan H. Hello All, I tried the $3.50 death certificate search on eBay and have heard that it has now been mailed and is on it's way. Last night, Brian (the seller) notified me of another auction that he is currently offering (see below). I already own the 1890 Veterans Census so I wasn't interested but thought that perhaps someone else might be. --Jane Hi Jane. I mailed your certificate today. I noticed that your first request was someone from Darke county. I assume that you must have some interest in Darke county then. I wanted to let you know that I have a Darke county item on ebay right now. It is the special census that was taken in 1890 for Darke county, Ohio-- almost 170 pages! If you want to check it out, here is the link: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4162513053&category=2 0927&sspagename=STRK%3AMEASE%3AIT&rd=1 Thanks! Brian

Hello All, FINALLY the sun is shining in Indiana and I see that it is the same for most of the West, but those who live in the East might have to wait another day or two. Sunshine and warmer weather (and Wayne!) begin to remind me that we are getting close to ListFest time! It's time to roll out the Darke County ListFest planning list and begin in earnest to put together this year's gathering! We have our place: Shawnee Prairie Preserve in Greenville on St. Rt. 502. We have our date and time: June 19, 2004; 10:00am-5:00pm Further information on the website: http://www.dcoweb.org/listfest/listfest.htm NOW, all we need our participants - and hopefully, THAT'S YOU! For those of you who have come before, COME BACK! We would love to see you again! For those of you who have not come in the past, it's a great time to actually meet the people who you have already gotten to know by e-mail. If things go as they have in the past, there will also be those in attendance who don't have a list connection but do have an interest in Darke County and surrounding area genealogy. Who knows what gems of family information you might find out from them! Last year we had three members of the Board of Directors of the Brethren Heritage Center in Brookville, Ohio. We were most pleased to have them and hope they will join us again this year and perhaps bring other members who might have an interest in Darke County. If your ancestors are from Darke Co. but you have never been in the area, such a pleasant surprise awaits you! The research facilities are great, the people of Darke Co. extremely friendly and helpful, and the ability to look upon the land that your ancestors walked is a tremendously uplifting experience! So, with this message, the ListFest planning list if officially opened for the 2004 ListFest. If you are not on that list and wish to have an inside track on what's going on, send me a message at jetorres@indiana.edu and I'll subscribe you. If anyone would like to tell the group about any of their ListFest experiences in past years, I would certainly enjoy hearing it from the participant's perspective! We are hoping to see you in June, --Jane and Wayne and the darke-oh@indiana.edu List Members

Hello Goodale Researchers, In going thru my ggUncle, Oren H. GOODALE, son of Lucy and Oren GOODALE, Civil War Pension file I find an interesting letter written by the postmaster, A. A. ENNIGH, of Atlantic, Cass Co., Iowa to the Special Examiner investigating one of Oren's wives request for widow's Pension. Elizabeth "Lizzie" (KING) GOODALE was later denied her request because it was proven that they were legally divorced but the information gathered in this investigation has proved invaluable. Here is the the letter mentioned above: United States Post Office Atlandtic, Iowa October 9, 1926 Mr. Elmer E. HELMAN Special Examiner, Kansas City, Missouri My Dear Sir, In answer to your inquiry of the 4th inst., with reference to one Jeff GOODALE, will say that I knew of a grand-son of the old original Jeff GOODALE, but have been delayed in getting hold of him. The Grand-son's name is William GOODALE and resides here, and he informs me that his Grand-father whose real name was Thomas Jefferson GOODALE, being one of the pioneers of this part of the country, died in the year 1883, his wife dying in the year 1895, they have a son who if living, lives in Humbolt County, Calif., possibly near Eureka, by the name of Almon GOODALE, this Almon has a son-in-law supposed to live in the same county by the name of Al HEATH. Now this Almon GOODALE has a son, if living by the name of Jeff GOODALE who would be pretty well along in years, 60 or more (a rather notorious character) whose whereabouts are unknown, possibly in the penitentiary some place from all I can learn, if living. My thought being that it was the old original Jeff GOODALE that you were inquiring about. This is about all I can learn concerning Jeff GOODALE, though some may give you a clue for further inquiry. Sincerely yours, A. A. ENNIGH (hard to read) Postmaster ************** In this same pension file my own ggGrandfather, Stephen A. GOODALE, youngest child of Lucy and Oren GOODALE out of Darke County, Ohio, where all the children were born states on 2Nov1900: "Yes, I had an uncle Jeff GOODALE, he lived at Atlantic, Cass Co., Iowa. His boys were named Almond and Frank." ************* M432_674 pg. 399 Monroe Twp., Darke Co., Oh.
