Does anyone know if records still exist of the Bethel Home or Bethel Union, operated by the Western Seamen's Friend Society? According to the 'Encylopedia of Cleveland History', it ceased to exist about 1920. A relative who was a seaman on the Great Lakes was listed in the 1873 City Directory, as boarding at the "Bethel Home". At that time it was located in the "McCurdy Block," at the corner of Superior and Spring Streets.
