Here is a free online > 1900 Cleveland Directory > _http://distantcousin.com/Directories/OH/Cleveland/1900/_ > (http://distantcousin.com/Directories/OH/Cleveland/1900/) > Eliz Eliz, Thanks for the information on the online 1900 Cleveland directory. I had debated about including additional information in my initial post, but I was afraid of sending people off on a wild goose chase, because I really don't know much about my great-uncle and what little I do know is often conjectural. All I know for sure is that he was born in Lewiston, NY, about 1882 and that he had siblings Harriet, James (or John), and Edith. He appears in the 1892 NY State census, which was taken just after his mother died. My great-grandfather remarried shortly thereafter and his second wife (my great-grandmother) apparently did not want the children from the first marriage around, as they do not appear with my great-grandfather's new family in the 1900 census. They were apparently farmed out to relatives, as Harriet appears with an uncle and someone who appears to be Ben is listed in the 1900 census with one of my great-grandfather's cousins in Niagara County, NY. The next I hear of Ben is an address book that my father used during World War I. Here he lists Ben Cornell as living at 3784 31st Street in Cleveland. The exciting thing about the draft registration card that I mentioned in my initial post is that it lists his home address as "37?? 10 31st Cleveland", where the ? are illegible digits. It also lists his nearest relative as a "Mrs. Charles Greene" in Buffalo, NY. Ben's sister, Edith, married a man named Greene (first name unknown). Ben Cornell disappears after that. He does not appear in the 1920 or 1930 census, nor in the Social Security Death Index. His sister Harriet moved to western Canada about 1901 and married a John Maltby. His brother James (or John) also moved to western Canada and is last recorded in the 1901 British Columbia census. I looked for Ben in British Columbia without luck. Ben does not seem to have served in World War I, as he was still a civilian in September 1918 and the war was effectively over in November 1918. My grandfather, who did serve, was being shipped home in early 1919. That, aside a from a few wild rumors and a couple of mysterious postcards, is about all I have on my great uncle. What I am hoping to to is verify my conjecture that the Ben Cornell on the draft registration card is my great uncle and to find out when he was living in Cleveland and where he may have gone next. I will check with the LDS to see if I can order the city directories from them. Thanks again for your help. David
