Hello All.... Can anyone suggest how Social Security Numbers would have been obtained if the births were not registered in 1899, 1902 & 1903. This seems to be the case for my three uncles who were born in Cleveland, Cuyahoga County in the above mentioned years. The brothers are known to have had Social Security numbers; in the case of the oldest I have his actual S.S. application record. However, when I did a search for the birth records (using a complete birth date) via the Cuyahoga County Archives as well as the LDS/FHL films I came up empty handed. I have heard it explained that in some cases family members vouched for the applicant but would there not have to be some documentation on record, even after the fact, to substantiate the birth. Thanks for any help along these lines. Bette
Bette, My father was 36 yrs. old when he filed for a Special Birth Certificate so he could apply for a social security card. His mother had to file an affidavid to verify his date of birth. His birth was registered in 1943, but it doesn't show up in the regular birth indexes in Kentucky. Ohio may have the same system. You might contact the Ohio Dept. of Vital Statistics and ask about special/delayed birth certificates. You might also check with the Cleveland area Health Dept. to determine if they might have copies of these types of birth registrations.
