    3. Marine Hospital, located at 9th and Lakeside, changed it's name to Lakeside Hospital in 1888 which relocated to a new facility at 13th and Lakeside in 1895. As you said the NYC tracks lay to the north of the hospital and beyond that the "old Lake Erie shoreline". No housing and certainly not in 1953 like that obituary stated.
