Hi, Could someone with Ancestry please do a lookup for me. John SHARKEY is a Civil War soldier buried in Cuyahoga as such. When I requested to NARA for his muster roll papers they sent me four of them that listed him as a deserter. They said he went to Euclid on a leave of absence and did not return. Worst of all I paid $17.00 to find that out on four papers. Then yesterday I decided to go through the list of soldiers in his unit, K Company 2nd Reg. On the Civil War Soldiers and Sailors System I could go through over 3,000 names in his Regiment. Much to my surprise I found that there were two names listed as SHARKEY John and SHARKY John. I would venture to guess that when John came back from leave and reentered they spelled his surname incorrectly. Now I'll request John SHARKY from NARA and I bet I get more of his service record back...maybe just four more papers but at least he won't have been a deserter. Be warned before sending the $17.00 for the service record check all surnames for misspellings. You can do that by going through the regiment list on CWSS. John Curran is also spelled Curren and Currun and all listed in the same unit. Okay on to my request, John SHARKEY was not listed as a pensioner on the Cuyahoga County 1890 Veterans and Widows Pension census nor did I find him on Ancestory under John SHARKEY but would someone double check to see if he's not listed as SHARKY. His wife's name was Mary and he was living on the east side of Cleveland I think Euclid. I would appreciate the lookup. Thanks, Cindy --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo!
