I was born (bi-racial ?) March 24, 1936 at Cleveland State Hopital as CATHERINE MARGARETTE WALKEM (WALKEN), daughter of DOROTHY M. WALKEM, a patient at the mental health facility. DOROTHY WALKEM, born March 28 1908 died at the Cleveland State Hopital on November 1st. 1936. Father: George H. WALKEM. Both are listed as "white" on original birth cerficate. Ward of the Cuyahoga County Child Welfare Board and the Juvenile Court, I was taken in by Harris and Thelma WASHINGTON (African-Am.) on Feb. 19, 1938.
