My great grandmother was definitely of childbearing age when she purchased that house in 1895. I'm also thinking that it might have had to do with her husband's occupation. He was a seaman on the Great Lakes and either it was hazardous or perhaps he was just away for long periods of time and it was easier for her to take care of all things legal. Or maybe she bought the house while he was away and surprised him with it! Sounds like my family. Kathy
