    1. [OHCUYAHO] birth records circa 1889
    2. W. D. Smith
    3. I understand Ohio began keeping both birth and death records in 1867. My grandfather William L. Smith gave his birthdate as August 17, 1889. Is there a birth index for Cuhahoga County for that time period that I can check? He grew up in Lorain, but there's no guarantee that he was actually born there. I suspect he may actually have been born in Cuyahogah County. Thanks, Will

    3. I've been doing genealogy for about 6 years and never came across any birth index online for Ohio or for Cuyahoga county. Seems you have to ask the Bureau of Vital Statistics in that state or maybe ask the library or maybe even ask the Historical Society. Seems to me that they just don't look it up and give info. Seems you ask for it and send money and if they have it they will send it to you. christie "W. D.
