If they were farmers, as many were, check the neighboring states such as Indiana and Michigan, as many moved on to more fertile fields. If you are using Ancestry, try the Soundex setting for the name as census takers are notorious for bad spellings. Also many early Ohio settlers came from Connecticut so check there for all BARTHOLOMEW names, also with Soundex. PS: There is a Hiram, about the same age, with father Lorenzo, in Ashtabula County, Ohio in time frame censuses.
