Hi Everyone, Due to the recent movement of Hurricane Ike moving through Ohio on Sunday leaving destruction everywhere, Ike also decided to leave its mark on Woodland Cemetery. I had visited Woodland Cemetery last night and I cannot believe the destruction the high winds had left on the cemetery. After talking to Mr. Mitchell, Manager for the City of Cleveland Cemeteries, today regarding the condition of Woodland Cemetery, the city had decided that the cemetery is unsafe to visitors right now. For the public safety, it has been decided to postpone the clean up while the city departments come into the cemetery to assess all the damage, inspect all the trees for additional loose/down limbs, and clean up the cemetery. Many people had been killed by loose tree limbs throughout the state recently and we all feel that we would rather protect the public then someone getting hurt. Therefore, Woodland Cemetery is going to be temporarily closed to the public while the city does what it needs to do to ensure the public is safe in the cemetery. The City of Cleveland wants nothing more then to ensure the safety of the public and from what I have seen, I agree. For those of you who would like to come and assist with a fall clean up, we would appreciate it if you would come to Highland Park Cemetery to help clean up one of the many veteran sections at 10:00am or after. Highland Park Cemetery is located at 21400 Chagrin Boulevard (216.348.7210). Please bring your shovels since many of the veteran headstones are being overgrown by grass. If you should have any questions, please feel free to call me. We thank you for your help, cooperation and understanding.
