I am looking for two obituaries/articles that ran during this time period. I actually have copies of them but they are bad copies with no date and source. I have been looking at the archives for the Plain Dealer but I cannot find these. I am trying to figure out if I am a bad searcher or if there is another paper these could have come from. The one has a title "Death of a Pioneer Catholic"- this is for Bridget Murphy who died on October 18,1904-this ran before her funeral on October 21, 1904. There was another one that ran after her funeral in which the title is Funeral of Mrs. Bridget Murphy. I am also looking for another for Thomas Murphy who was buried April 10, 1900. The obituary has Obituary written above the article. Any search tips or names of other newspapers are appreciated- I have not been able to search page by page because my internet is very slow. Thanks Dawn
There was also the Cleveland Press which ceased publication in 1982, after publishing for more than a century. The Cleveland Memory Project at http://www.clevelandmemory.org has archived a lot of the newspaper's morgue, but it does not appear to contain obituaries.... Just more historical items. And they also say on this website for their Cleveland Press collection that "little survives from the first half-century". Very sad. If someone with faster connections than us can look at the relevant days in the Plain Dealer, and your people are not there, I would say you could safely assume that the obit source was the Cleveland Press. You are certainly lucky that you have even bad copies of these obits. It seems likely that they are not available elsewhere. Linda S
