Bee, The probate court will send you up to 5 marriage licenses for a dime each. They will be uncertified. I have over the last 5 years systematically retrieved almost 100 licenses by mailing to them weekly. I just make sure each envelop has a cashier's check for $0.50. These are free from my credit union. I place a self-adressed stamped envelope in the request along with the names of the bride & groom and the volume information from the probate court index. The quality you get back is due to the condition of the microfilm in many cases. I have had to request a license twice for the same couple because of quality and the differences were not great. In general, anything after 1920 is in pretty good condition and you get a great image. You can also request more recent licenses from the docket system for the same price. Just list the case number in place of the volume info. Here are the details as given to me by the probate court staff. - 5 requests per page - Self-adressed stamped envelope - Certified check, money order, or bank check (cashiers check) Make check payable to "Probate Court" Address: Cuyahoga County Probate Court Marriage License Dept 1 Lakeside Ave Room 146 (1st floor) Cleveland, OH 44113 Good luck. I have had no problems with the probate court and they send me what I need for almost nothing. You may have to wait upto 8 weeks to get your licenses and there is no good way to check on progress.
