I was on this list a few months ago learning how to access info about my ggg grandfather and one of his sons, Valentine Swain. I sure found alot with your help. I am trying to track the marriage of my gg, his brother, Shubael Edgar Swain. He was a NYC lawyer, not a Catholic, but married an Irish Catholic woman. Where is the question, as I can't pin down anything definate about it or her before marriage. About him I know alot. Since his father died, after moving up to Ohio from NYC, to be with Valentine, and the city directories and logic lead you to believe that Shubael Edgar was up there for his father's illness and death, it is just possible that he may have met and married his wife up there. Probably the entire family would have come up for the funeral, or before. His wife's name was Catherine Nagle. I did look on Ancestry for Nagles up there with not much luck. So this is a long shot in the dark. I am writing to NYC Catholic churches, but thought I would give this possibility a try also. I forget where I have to look or write to to get a marriage record. I did one for Valentine several years ago- Thanks, Sue Maxwell

NEOCAG meets. Saturday 9 January 2010 9:00 am at St. Bartholomew Church, 534 SOM Center Road. Our guest speaker will be Derrick Mason. His topic is "African American Genealogy," but of course, the techniques apply to all. Second session - Computing Tools will be a review of some of the free resources and utilities on the NEOCAG DVD with Norm Henke Second session - CAG Tools - "Basic Web Page Workshop" with Cynthia Turk. If you like, bring a laptop and make a simple web page. The point of this is to show how a web site works. It will be very basic HTML - the codes your browser "sees" that make it show you what it does. This will be "Web Appreciation 101" not "Comprehensive Web Site Construction 402." Third session - User Groups - Anyone using any genealogy program is welcome to gather others of like interest and share. Council will assist with your needs. We see quite a few using RootsMagic, for instance, so maybe a group could be started. Come join us for coffee in the morning and maybe even lunch afterwards at a local restaurant. Guests always welcome, now free of charge! Happy New Year! I have recently obtained what I believe to be my great grandfather Michael Parle's birth certificate. Additionally, I obtained his parents - my great, great grandparents' - marriage certificate which indicates the following: . Richard Parle (age 29) married Mary Duffin (age 29) on 21 Oct 1866, at the Catholic Chapel of Templetown in the Registrar's District of Fethard, New Ross, Wexford. . Residence at time of marriage was Slade for both. . Thomas Parle, a farmer, was Richard Parle's father. . Richard Duffin, also a farmer, was Mary Duffin's father. . Richard and Mary were married in the presence of Ellen Power and Catherine Duffin. My great grandfather Michael Parle was born on 15 May 1872, in Fethard, New Ross, Wexford. His older brother Richard was born 10 Jul 1870. **** I would like to find out how my Michael ended up in Cleveland, Ohio, and married Cora Hatie in 1894, had 3 daughters, and died in 1901. Such a short life! Any ideas out there????
