Yes, that's William, but what I need is information about his parents, and I thought there was an outside chance that something further about his sister might lead to parent information. The records at Sandusky are on microfiche and I've taken notes from the parts of them that I could read, but there is no copy capability. I have ordered LDS films for the time frame of his admission and hope they are the same records and will be entirely legible and I can copy and study them. I also ordered death recods, hoping that something there was recorded about his parentage. Salt Lake is running behind on supplying orders due to a new system that is in the testing stage. Since Millie disappears from the city directory soon after the 1900 census, she either died or moved away. Hope springs eternal that she went somewhere else where death certificates were created--or maybe I haven't been creative enough, spelling-wise, to find her name in indexed death records. If the indexer made a typo on the first letter of Reed, the record could be hidden anywhere. (The first letter of my father's surname was omitted on SSDI, simply a mistake. I found him by searching his SSN.) Both of her brothers, William and Nelson, died before 1900. Nelson's. Thank you for your interest and help. There was also the Cleveland Press which ceased publication in 1982, after publishing for more than a century. The Cleveland Memory Project at http://www.clevelandmemory.org has archived a lot of the newspaper's morgue, but it does not appear to contain obituaries.... Just more historical items. And they also say on this website for their Cleveland Press collection that "little survives from the first half-century". Very sad. If someone with faster connections than us can look at the relevant days in the Plain Dealer, and your people are not there, I would say you could safely assume that the obit source was the Cleveland Press. You are certainly lucky that you have even bad copies of these obits. It seems likely that they are not available elsewhere. Linda S
I am looking for two obituaries/articles that ran during this time period. I actually have copies of them but they are bad copies with no date and source. I have been looking at the archives for the Plain Dealer but I cannot find these. I am trying to figure out if I am a bad searcher or if there is another paper these could have come from. The one has a title "Death of a Pioneer Catholic"- this is for Bridget Murphy who died on October 18,1904-this ran before her funeral on October 21, 1904. There was another one that ran after her funeral in which the title is Funeral of Mrs. Bridget Murphy. I am also looking for another for Thomas Murphy who was buried April 10, 1900. The obituary has Obituary written above the article. Any search tips or names of other newspapers are appreciated- I have not been able to search page by page because my internet is very slow. Thanks Dawn
It's not finished. Perhaps it will be ready later this year in book for. In the meantime, if I can help in any way, let me know. Thanks for the reply Bob. It sure does appear that it is closed or moved. I got a reply from Ingrid who said that she indexed the oldest church books about 18 years ago and that she thought that they were given to WRHS. However, a check of the WRHS catalog doesn't show that they have the church book or index. So, I'm not sure where they are now. Many thanks to those (Nancy A. & D.C.) who took the time to answer my query regarding where to find online (Cleveland, Cuyahoga Co.) newspaper articles. I am having a good time perusing the databases especially the website http://nl.newsbank.com/nl-search/we/Archives , passed along by Laura.
