    3. Susan, I took a look but cannot locate your points of reference: "just east of Green and Euclid South side". 3. I'm looking for David Rowe. He was in the 1900 and 1910 census for Cleveland. I'm trying to link him to a possible brother: William Walter Rowe. I also tried looking for Catherine Davis, who married William in 1892, prior to her marriage. That may explain with the first hit in the search was Catherine Rowe. David must appear shortly thereafter. I also got Catherine Rowe as the first hit for a search on William Rowe. Thanks for taking the time to straighten me out. I signed up for a month. 3. Cynthia, I wish I knew the answer to that one. I am not a resident of OH so my access to the Sanborn Maps is denied. Perhaps someone who does have a library card for the CPL system could check for the location of "Cooper Rd" ca 1896. I would be happy to learn more. Since my focus during the 1896 time period is Cooper Rd., Euclid Twp., Ohio I doubt that a search of the city of Cleveland, Cuyahoga County directories would be productive. 3. Euclid Township today includes parts of South Euclid, Cleveland Heights, Richmond Heights, and Lyndhurst, Ohio. I searched Google maps for Cooper Road in all of those communities and found nothing. There is a Cooper AVENUE today off East 40th Street in Cleveland but, according to the entry for Euclid Township in the Encyclopedia of Cleveland History, the Western boundaries of Euclid Township didn't go that far. 2. Curt Rowe
    3. I just got the marriage affidavit from Cuyahoga County described below. Unfortunately, it doesn't tell me anything more that the marriage certificate or that I already know. It attests that the groom is at least 21 and the bride is at least 18, that they aren't currently married to anyone else, and that they are no closer than 2nd cousins in relation. It contains the date of the license and the date of the marriage on the return. I did get the grooms signature. It's also signed by the person who married them and the clerk. If the groom or bride were under age, there may be a different affidavit. I still trying to get through to the cathedral where they were married, but my emails have bounced or haven't been responded to. -----Original Message----- From: ohcuyaho-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:ohcuyaho-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Nancy Archdekin Sent: Tuesday, January 26, 2010 11:52 AM To: ohcuyaho@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [OHCUYAHO] Why Marry in Cleveland? I'd also suggest you look at the city directories, but don't put 100% faith on the years they are included in the directories. I found myself still listed in one directory 3 years after I moved 1000 miles away. You might also check for newspaper accounts of their marriage - in Cleveland and in their hometowns. These may offer a clue as to why they married where they did. If those aren't available check for an article reporting an anniversary (25th, 50th) in a local newspaper. If you don't already have it, you might check the actual entry in the church records to see if there was a notation regarding their places of residence. See http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~officer/CuyOhFAQ.html#CATH OLIC. Have you checked for a marriage license record in Cuyahoga County? This should also include their residences at the time the license was issued. An index to licenses from 1810 through April 1998 can be found at http://probate.cuyahogacounty.us/ml/. More details regarding this index and how to obtain a free copy of the record can be found at http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~officer/CuyOhMarIndx.html. I did a search and found a William W Rowe and a Katherine F Davis in the index. Hope springs eternal that she went somewhere else where death certificates were created--or maybe I haven't been creative enough, spelling-wise, to find her name in indexed death records. If the indexer made a typo on the first letter of Reed, the record could be hidden anywhere. (The first letter of my father's surname was omitted on SSDI, simply a mistake. 3. Thank you for this info. He served in Co. B 6th U.S. Cav, having been discharged about 1864, and later enlisted for 1 year in Co. B 38 Ohio Vol. Inf, with discharge in mid-July 1865. His CW Pension record says nothing about him having been captured, but since the Aldrich History says he was, that must have somehow been overlooked when he told about his service. I had noticed before that Co B was recruited from Henry County, and have wondered why he was there. Only this weekend we have new information that leads us to believe that his mother, Mary Quantrell (various spellings) Bestor (later Mrs. Bearby) had relatives in the northwest part of Ohio and the southern part of Michigan. We have been unable to find the Quantrell family on a passenger list. William Quantrell, Jr.'s bio in a county history says that they came with their mother from Norfolk, England, and the times mentioned seem to work out to about 1830 immigration. > Date: Sun, 31 Jan 2010 12:24:44 -0800 > From: myheritage@sbcglobal.net > To: ohcuyaho@rootsweb.com > Subject: Re: [OHCUYAHO] Cleveland Newspapers 1900-1904 > > Also if William is William H > found this > > The 38th Regiment O.V.
