Rick wrote a book about Jackie Presser that included some distant cousins. Can you tell me if there are any Salupo's mentioned in the book? I don't know of any that went west but they may have been involved in the setup. Vince On 2010-02-15, at 3:00 AM, ohcuyaho-request@rootsweb.com wrote: > > > Today's Topics: > > 1. Rick Porrello has written another book Superthief which mentions names and places in Collinwood, Cuyahoga County, Ohio, connected to a California bank robbery. I found it most interesting.
I am sorry I sent the wrong message to the lists this week. That one was last month's which was postponed to tomorrow, February 13. I had made changes, but somewhere it got lost. Here it is again. NEOCAG meets at St. Bartholomew Church, 534 SOM Center Road. Our guest speaker will be Derrick Mason. His topic is "African American Genealogy," but of course, the techniques apply to all. Second session - Computing Tools will be a review of some of the free PDF resources and utilities on the NEOCAG DVD with Norm Henke. Included will be READERS: Adobe Reader and Foxit Reader; WRITERS: Bullzip PDF Printer (needs Ghostscript Lite), CutePDF Writer, doPDF Convertr, PDFCreator, PDFill PDF & Image Writer, and PrimoPDF; CONVERTERS: PDF to Word Doc Converter, Zilla PDF to Text Converter, and http://www.pdftoword.com/ . Second session - CAG Tools - "Basic Web Page Workshop" with Cynthia Turk. If you like, bring a laptop and make a simple web page. The point of this is to show how a web site works. It will be very basic HTML - the codes your browser "sees" that make it show you what it does. This will be "Web Appreciation 101" not "Comprehensive Web Site Construction 402." Third session - User Groups - Anyone using any genealogy program is welcome to gather others of like interest and share. RootsMagic will have a group led by Paul Studly. Thanks to everyone who provided marriage license info for Probate Court records. Bee
Bee, The probate court will send you up to 5 marriage licenses for a dime each. They will be uncertified. I have over the last 5 years systematically retrieved almost 100 licenses by mailing to them weekly. I just make sure each envelop has a cashier's check for $0.50. These are free from my credit union. I place a self-adressed stamped envelope in the request along with the names of the bride & groom and the volume information from the probate court index. The quality you get back is due to the condition of the microfilm in many cases. I have had to request a license twice for the same couple because of quality and the differences were not great. In general, anything after 1920 is in pretty good condition and you get a great image. You can also request more recent licenses from the docket system for the same price. Just list the case number in place of the volume info. Here are the details as given to me by the probate court staff. - 5 requests per page - Self-adressed stamped envelope - Certified check, money order, or bank check (cashiers check) Make check payable to "Probate Court" Address: Cuyahoga County Probate Court Marriage License Dept 1 Lakeside Ave Room 146 (1st floor) Cleveland, OH 44113 Good luck. I have had no problems with the probate court and they send me what I need for almost nothing. You may have to wait upto 8 weeks to get your licenses and there is no good way to check on progress. If you wait longer than 3 months, just send another request. regards, Vince > > -----Original Message----- > From: BMS65GAS73@aol.com > To: ohcuyaho@rootsweb.com > Sent: Wed, Feb 3, 2010 6:12 pm > Subject: [OHCUYAHO] Probate Court Marriage Requests > > > I am looking for uncertified copies of marriage licenses after > volume 200. > Has anyone ordered copies from probate court in Cleveland, OH and > is the > cost still 25 cents for the uncertified long form? I don't remember what I paid, but it was more than 25 cents and the quality was poor. Some were too dark and others too light, very difficult to read. The ones I ordered (from the same time period) from other Ohio counties were great. Good Luck! Shari In a message dated 2/3/2010 6:13:10 P.M. Also I didn't care about false hits, I just wanted to see what years hit as a quick a dirty way of seeing what years they had. Eliz, Please, what trick did you use? I find no pages for Lewis in 1914 in Cleveland at Footnote. I did not check for other years for Lewis as so many false hits for non-target years. But also found none for Wallace in 1910, 1912, or 1914. Footnote has a complete run 1900 thru 1923 <G> but then my Lewises are much more common <G> They also have the 1860's missing only two years. 1870 thru 1923 are COMPLETE (I pray for one or two from Youngstown <G>) so Cleveland is a Joy! Just in case you are trying to get a full run of years, so you know that I was a bit over zealous about how complete they are. I have checked my notes more carefully, and was not able to find Cleveland directory pages at footnote in my own research for what may be key years for you: 1910, 1912, or 1914. I found pages there for all other years 1890-1923, for my own research for Weinzimmer, but did not note specifically how far before or after that they have. Now, they may have added those 3 years recently, but we could not find them a few months ago. On 2/2/10, Curt Rowe <amroots@zetcho.com> wrote: > I'm looking for David Rowe.
