    3. Hello Cuyahoga County Researchers: Most of you are aware the question of genealogical frauds and hoaxes must be of concern to genealogists and researchers since so much information out there is very questionable. We have several pages on our web sites that will be of great help to you in understanding what the problems are. We have updated one of the pages in our Fraudulent Lineages area. The page in question is titled; BEWARE OF THE SOURCE HOAX UPDATE #3 Many of you are quite unaware of the ways frauds and hoaxes are committed and you may need to review your lines to see if possibly they may contain some of the situations we cover. The URL for this page is; http://www.linkline.com/personal/xymox/ When there look for the FRAUDULENT LINEAGES link which you will enter and look for the listing for "Beware Of The Source Hoax Update #3 for the information. For those of you who are AOL members you may have trouble connecting to many pages that may come up with a message such as "Page Does Not Exist" and you can cure that by using your browser feature of Copy and Paste the URL to your browser and then enter from there. 1. Re: [OHCUYAHO] marriage applications and German Church records
    2. The records should exist. If you type Cuyahoga County Probate Court Ohio into your search engine, then click on it, and follow the links to the marriage licenses pages, you should be able to type in the bride's name, the groom's name, or the bride's first name and the groom's last name. If the application/marriage was in Cuyahoga County, I believe the information is online from 1810-1998. What you will get is not the license online. You will be given the Volume Number, Page Number, and Page Match Number. Then write a letter to the Court (address is on website). Tell the bride's name, groom's name, volume, pg., and pg. match. Enclose a check made out to the court for $.10 (yes, 10 cents for an uncertified copy!!! :) ). Include a self-addressed, stamped envelope. You should get a copy of the marriage license in about 1 month or less. I've done this frequently with much success. Good searching to you from Lorene in Ohio. P.S. There is also a website, I believe, for the churches and ministers, but I'm not sure what it is. Maybe someone else on the list can tell you (and me).

    3. While perusing the Heritage Quest census records, I checked out their help file and found this interesting tidbit that some of you might be interested in (unless I'm the only one who didn't know about this! <grin>) -- Sandy "In 1984, the National Archives produced a Cross Index to Selected City Streets and Enumeration Districts, 1910 Census, (publication M1283) which is a typescript (fifty-one microfiche cards) available at the FHL in Salt Lake City. It is an index to the city streets for 39 U.S. cities in 1910: [snipped list of cities -- but Cleveland is one of them] Researchers can use this street index to determine a census Enumeration District for a known address in one of the cities. This can shorten the time needed to locate a particular family in the census schedules for certain unindexed 1910 cities. The street indexes are arranged by the city and then by the street name and street numbers. It gives the page number, enumeration district, and FHL microfilm number for most addresses. The typescript is not available outside the FHL in Salt Lake City, but the microfiche version is available via interlibrary loan to the many Family History Centers across the country. ---===---===---===---===---===---===---===---===--- }><(((((*> Sandy Rozhon <*)))))><{ ---===---===---===---===---===---===---===---===---

    1. Scranton Cemetery, Cleveland
    2. Hi All: Just wanted to pass along some information that I know would be very helpful to anyone that has ancestors buried at Scranton Cemetery on Scranton Road in Cleveland. Cynthia Turk has done a tremendous amount of research on people buried there, not only from cemetery records (which are sparse) as well as other documents, and has put it into book form. I ordered a book for myself this week and wanted to let you know about this great resource. I make no profit from this book, but just wanted to let those of you with ancestors in Scranton Cemetery know about it. I found the description below at this website and you'll also find ordering information there if you are interested: http://www.clossonpress.com/csearchresults.jsp?searchCriteria=Scranton&st atus=1&book=1 Scranton Road Cemetery, Cleveland, Ohio, Introduction, Inscriptions, Interments By: Cynthia Turk Scranton Road Cemetery, the oldest west side cemetery, is also known as North Brooklyn Cemetery. Since about 1812 it has served what is now known as the Tremont and Clark-Fulton Neighborhoods in Cleveland, Cuyahoga County, Ohio. Its interees include some of the west side’s earliest settlers as well as a large number of German immigrants. This book includes a history of the cemetery; complete lot and tier maps indicating all known burial locations; 929 gravestone inscription readings in row order; a German inscription translation guide; an index to the lot cards containing 2,740 names; and a composite interment record (originally intended to replace burned registers) of 4,983 persons. The composite record comes from a large number of sources, painstakingly extracted from death records; church, cemetery, and city records; deeds and obituaries. The resulting table includes (when known) name, dates of death and interment, address, birth date/age, cause of death, nativity, block-lot/tier-grave numbers, undertaker, and a variety of remarks including physician, relationships from stones, etc. It also includes the sources for each record. This book is an important source of burial information for west side Germans, especially since most of the cemetery’s records are no longer available. If you are lucky enough to visit this quaint neighborhood cemetery, this book will ease navigation among your ancestors there. 466 pages. You might wish to browse the rest of the Closson Press site as they print a lot of books for Western PA and Eastern OH.
