    1. Re: [OHCUYAHO] Help with German birthplaces in 1860 census?
    2. Barbara I. Amburgey
    3. Catherine, Oldenburg is a state in Germany up near Denmark neighboring Schleswig-Holstein. There is also a city of Oldenburg. Could "Les viesel" have been someone's attempt at a contraction for Schleswig-Holstein? There is also an Oldenburg in Schlewig-Holstein itself. Prussia seems like too much of an inclusive term, but then Prussia was growing and could have had claims on Oldenburg by 1870. Check some historical maps of Prussia. I doubt it was Baden and Wuerrtemburg--too far south. I'd go with the most contemporaneous information which seems to be the 1860 census. A great map site for Germany is http://www2.jewishgen.org/ShtetlSeeker/ Barb ----- Original Message ----- From: "Catherine Galvin" <catgalvin@yahoo.com> To: <OHCUYAHO-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, August 24, 2004 10:37 PM Subject: [OHCUYAHO] Help with German birthplaces in 1860 census? > Hello, > Could someone help with this? This isn't a complete solution, but I think you can come up with one if you do a Save As from Excel with type "Formatted Text (space delimited) (*.prn)." Rollie

    3. I see that the list I put here for the 1915 East High book came out a jumbled mess. I switched from a Word document to Excel saving both as a text document and then cutting and pasting into my email. The word document appears to be a better format but since I've been requested to put it into an Excel format for later posting on a website I changed. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can use Excel and post it here without it losing all of the formatting? Thanks, Char

    3. Hi Frank; I found several class pictures of Catherine, not individual but hopefully you can pick her out. It appears that she played in the Orchestra, second violin which might help you find her. Do you want those pictures as well? Just don't want to overwelm your mailbox. Let me know. Char WaldeckF@aol.com wrote: Just saw the name of Fitzgerald, Catherine in the list of 1915 Junior Class students. I would appreciate any text or pics which may accompany the listings. Many thanks for your generous contribution. Catherine was my mother's sister. Frank Waldeck

    3. If you see (& surname) it means that two surnames were listed together on the same line -- most likely a business. The one in parentheses is listed with the one above it. There may or may not be multiple entries for the surnames with no parentheses, but there is only one entry for the surname in parentheses where it appears in the listing -- probably out of order.
