    1. Frederick Neuhofer, Mrs. C. Platt
    2. Does anyone have any more info on Frederick Neuhofer who lived at least part of his life in Cleveland? He was born in Germany in about 1842 and married Alice Eckert in Danville, Pa, . Their daughter Caroline was born in Danville in 1875. There was another daughter who is mentioned in her mother's obituary as Mrs. C. Platt. (If anyone knows more about her, she's another brick wall for me.) She shows up on a census as Lisy and was born in Cleveland about 1878. I have found a reference in FamilySearch for a Frederick/Frank Neuhofer born to Frederick and Alice Neuhofer in Cleveland in 1878. The name is so rare, I have to believe it is the same family. However no mention of this son appears in the mother's obit, so I presume he died young. Perhaps little Fred and Lisy were twins? I also presume Fred, Sr, died young (or they were divorced) for Alice later married Ernst Clausing. Fred and Alice are in the 1880 Cuyahoga census as Newhofer, but that is the only mention I have seen. There is an intriguing census entry for a Fred Newhoffer in Lorain in 1910, but there is a 5 year difference in the ages with Fred, Sr. There is also a Florence Kitsteiner mentioned in Alice's obit as a granddaughter. I do not believe this is Carrie's child, so she probably belongs to Lisy. Florence was born in 1900 in Ohio and died in Miami in 1975. I believe her husband's name was William. Can you help?

    1. 1900's, Joseph Glaser, 1700 Loraine
    2. M. Young
    3. Other than on a birth certificate record that is supposed to be for my husband's grandmother, I can find no record of this family - father, mother, and daughter, Frances Agnes. Can anyone help? A birth certificate for "baby girl", dated July 12, 1906, lists parents as Joseph Glaser, 35, and Caroline Pessinger(sp?), 25, living at 1700 Loraine in Cleveland, OH. The girl was delivered by a midwife, Rosa Bolivar, living a few blocks away. Joseph Glaser's family was Bohemian and Caroline's was German. There was nothing on the birth certificate about occupation or the place of birth of the parents. I have been able to find out a lot about Rosa Bolivar's family, but that doesn't help me much. Any help would be appreciated.

    3. Hi Sandy, Yes there are many issues with the transcribed database, mis-spellings as you found, cases where the given name is listed in the database as the surname, etc... It is fairly obvious the name is not jordan! the only letter that appears to be in question is the B, however look at the other writing of the manifest author and it is evident it is B. BOGDAN is a patronymic category surname, derived from the male given name Bogdan (bohgdahn). Translated it means "gift from God", English equivelant could be Theodore. Perhaps you know about Dr Stephen Morse Ellis Island "One Step" search page. For over a year now I have never used the "regular" Ellis Is page. Dr Morse allows so many variations of ways to search that it is THE best place to search. I realize the EI site has improved but Dr Morse is still better. One of the neat features is searching by entering a town name ONLY! When you search Dobrynin you find 54 immigrant arrivals inc Rosalia JORDAN! To use this feature go to the web page below and select SHORT FORM (gray) http://www.jewishgen.org/databases/EIDB/ellis.html Robert Jerin Croatian Heritage Museum Eastlake Ohio http://www.croatia-in-english.com/rj/ Sandy Rozhon <srozhon@comcast.net> wrote: I'm only writing this to the list to make sure that somewhere in the vast Internet vaults of lost information, someone might stumble onto this tidbit of information. Knowing nearly all the family names from the town she came from, I recognize the name as really being BOGDAN. How will anybody ever be able to find her? And I know there are some BOGDAN's in the Cleveland area. So I've written to the Cuyahoga list just so that maybe a Bogdan will eventually find this in the archive. 1. Kitsteiner and Platt
    2. I am trying to find more info on a Mrs. C Platt and a Florence Kitsteiner mentioned in an ancestor's obit. I believe that all these people at least started off in Cleveland. Alice Eckert Neuhofer Clausing is listed as being the mother of Mrs. C. Platt and Carrie Neuhofer, and grandmother to Florence Kitsteiner. Carrie I know all about. The 1880 Cuyahoga census lists two children for Fred and Alice Neuhofer - Cary (Carrie), age 5 and Lisy, age 2. I must presume Lisy is Mrs. C. Platt, although Alice did marry a second time, to Ernst Clausing. I don't know of their having any children, though. I believe Carrie's son was an only child, so I presume Mrs. Florence Kitsteiner is Lisy's daughter. I have seen the 1920 and 1930 censuses for the Kitsteiners. Can anyone tell me if Lisy is Florence's mother and if she's Mrs C Platt, who C Platt was and where did they live, and who the parents are for William Kitsteiner, b 1898 in Ohio to Ohio parents. Thanks!
