    3. Hi Pat, That wasn't me who posted the message regarding Highland and the other cemetery it was someone else. I live about 3 miles from Highland and pass it nearly everyday. As you found the folks there are very helpful at the Office located at Highland. I gave them names and years of death, requested date of death and burial as well as grave location. I sent a SASE for their reply. Much to my surprise (especially since I live in Florida) I got a reply in less than 2 weeks with the requested information as well as a map showing the sections. If you have the time before your trip in you might want to try writing first so you will know exactly where to go when you get there. ==== OHCUYAHO Mailing List ==== Please remember to change your subject lines to correspond with your message and capitalize all surnames. ============================== Gain access to over two billion names including the new Immigration Collection with an Ancestry.com free trial. 3. Die Deutsche Evangelische Protestantische Kirche (F0unded in 1834, services began in 1835. Carl Heinrich Adolph Allardt first served (beginning in 1839) at this church which was also known as Zum Schifflein Christi and Schifflein Christi Evangelical Church. German was taught in its school. From 1836 to 1838 he conducted services at Third Ward School on St. Clair Street. Two years later the congregation worshiped in an upper room on Superior between Seneca & Bank streets. In 1839 they moved to the Ross Block on the corner of Superior & Seneca streets. Their first building was erected at Erie (E.9th) & Hamilton where they met from August 1, 1841 until 1877 when they built a new one on Dodge (E.17th) & Superior Street which was sold in September 1967 and later razed. This church went through many splits and mergers. The last being in Wickliffe which became Fellowship United Church of Christ. The earlier records were there. If the ones you seek are not there , try the Western Reserve Historical Society. Allardt may have also preached at one of these churches: Evangelisch-Protestantische St. Pauls Gemeinde, and the Zweite Evangelisch-Reformierte Gemeinde.. If you don't find your records at Wickliffe or the WRHS, then contact me regarding these two churches by clic! king on germanbob@ameritech.net Allardt also served the German United Evangelical Church of Brighton in the 1840s, while serving at Die Deutsche Evangelische Protestantische Kirche. Allardt conducted services for Germans at pioneer homes in Parma, Brighton (South Brooklyn), and Independence. Every third Sunday he preached at a schoolhouse at the southeast corner of Broadview and Schaaf roads. In 1853, half of this congregation left to form another congregation and built a church at Columbus (W.25th) and Mill (Memphis) streets which is the present St. Lukes U.C.C. Sallyjuny@aol.com wrote:Rev. Adolph Allardt was listed as minister on two marriage records in 1855 and 1860. Does anyone know the church he was with those years? 2. Hi! I did some research and found that Vesta Fox was not the only person who seems to have lived on East 11th Street in Cleveland. 3. On 27 Oct 2004 at 4:16, Robert Jerin wrote: > Hi Sandy, Thanks for that info re E 11th... where can I find the > information re E 11th? If you mean, where did I find the info I posted, simple....I used the Sanborn Insurance Maps which are invaluable for tracking down old streets, seeing what neighborhoods looked like, where stores were, etc. If you have a Cleveland Public Library card, go to their website http://catalog.clevnet.org/ and click on RESEARCH DATABASES, then click on Alphabetical List, select "S" and then look for Sanborn (about the second entry down, I believe). Once you get into the search screen for Sanborn, you can enter a street name and it will bring up every map it has for that mentions that name. This results in maps for various cities in Ohio (Cleveland, Cincinatti, Columbus, Lorain, etc.) so you may want to limit your searches by using something like this: "eleventh and Cleveland" or even further, "eleventh and Cleveland not hundred" which will eliminate all those unwanted 111th St. enteries. Don't use the quotes -- they were just used here to highlight the entry to use in your search. The maps show every single building, how many floors they had, any outbuildings (sheds, garages, etc.), each address, and lots more. They range from around the 1880's up through about 1953, so knowing the old pre-1906 street names is handy, too. Using the maps is a bit of a challenge, the first time around because of the clunky viewer they use. The first image you see is usually just a portion of the entire page, so scroll down to near the bottom of the screen and pick "ZOOM TO 12 percent" and "SIZE 1024x768". That will display the whole page. Now when you click on any portion of the map, it will automatically zoom in on that section. The clunkiness is that each further click results in more zooming in, where sometimes you'd really like to just be moving further east or west. If the map no longer displays the area you are interested in looking at, go back to the zoom setting and put it back at 12 percent and start over. Have fun. Sandy

    3. Thank you so much for sending the images. I'm not sure if this is the correct John Drahos. There appears to be another John Drahos living in Cleveland who is close in age to the one I'm searching for, who married 'Anna'. The John Drahos I'm looking for would have a wife, Martha, and a son, John George Drahos who was b. 1906. It is possible that Martha and Anna might be the same person. I'm saving all of the bits and pieces of information I receive in case they are. Perhaps they will fit together someplace. Again, thank you so much! Barbara ----- Original Message ----- From: "M. 3. Havard Grove is in Cleveland, otherwise your location of Harvard and Lansing is OK. Rte 21 (Brecksville Rd) is OK. However it joins I 77 after you cross the River and the Canal. There is a connector street from Brecksville Rd to E 71st ST after you cross the Canal turn right on the connector and left on E 17st St. go north to Harvard and turn left to E 64th St and turn right to Lansing at Lansing turn left to the cemetery entrance. I don't believe there is an entrance off Harvard. http://www.rootsweb.com/~ohclecem/harvardgrovecemetery.html And how can one answer the question regarding safety... a cemetery no longer used... near the city! Just be aware of your surroundings. The records for the cemetery are kept at Highland Cemetery and I don't believe that there will be anyone to help you locate a plot. However there is a map of the cemetery online at: http://www.rootsweb.com/%7Eohclecem/harvardgrove.jpg Robert Jerin Croatian Heritage Museum Eastlake Ohio BHurst1948@aol.com wrote: Sorry, it's Harvard Grove Cemetery I am interested in. 1. Re: [OHCUYAHO] 1087 E. 11th St. Cleveland

    3. From what I can see the address, 1087 E. 11th St, was never valid! According to the list of street name changes from names to numbered streets there was no E. 11th. If that street address existed it would be at the present site of N. Marginal Dr (north of the Memorial Shoreway, which is a freeway built in 1938) and in the back yard of the US Coast Guard facility. To the NE is a harbor where a WW II Japanese submarine is located and to the E is Burke Lakefront airport, which opened in 1947 built on landfill. Most of that area was filled with refuse (burned garbage!) up into the 1950s. When we moved to Cleveland in 1953 I can not recall any houses north of the shoreway. In 1937-38 there was a huge Great Lakes Exposition from where the old Municipal stadium was located all the way to E 20th St and north of the RR tracks. One way to verify her address is through a Cleveland City Directory. Robert Jerin Croatian Heritage Museum Cleveland Ohio BHurst1948@aol.com wrote: This address appears to be no longer valid. 1. Adolph Allardt, Minister
    2. Rev. Adolph Allardt was listed as minister on two marriage records in 1855 and 1860. Does anyone know the church he was with those years? He was at the German Reformed Church 1839-53. Thanks for any help you can give. Sally

    1. Loree A. Wells funeral home
    2. Anyone know anything about the Loree A. Wells Funeral home? In 1953 it was at 8806 E. Euclid - now known as just Eucild. Did another funeral home take over? Thanks,
