Does anyone know the name of the catholic church that would have been operational from 1860 to 1880 for my O'Donnell family who lived at 170 University in Cleveland. Thanks for any help. Trudy Miller
If someone lived around Fulton and Denison Avenues in the early to mid-1800's, where would they most likely been buried? What cemetery? The individual I am trying to find is Dennison Foster, b. about 1775. I'm not positive he stayed in that area, but I haven't been able to find him elsewhere, either. Sandy

Dear List Members, In looking through the Necrology File online, I found of couple of my ancestors who died in Cleveland and would like to find the actual obituaries published in the Cleveland newspapers from 1920-1940. Where in Cleveland can I write to request copies of the obituaries of my ancestors found in the online Necrology File? Does the Cleveland Library have these newspapers? If so, what do they charge for look-up and copy of obituaries? Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Robert
Hi Jeanne: I don't know if anyone answered your question yet so I'll jump in here. Yes there are some records microfilmed for Grace Episcopal Church and you can find them at the Family History Center. I honestly cannot remember which one it was but the three numbers I have are 1870658, 1870657 and 1871191. Sharon, as to the family members who don't want the information, it's THEIR LOSS. Good Going on your part! You should be proud of yourself. Peggy
A HUGE thank you to everyone on the list who has helped me in so many varied ways, words cannot express the gratitude I feel for all you have done. I will still be on the lists and asking for help, but with other lines. It is with regret that I must bring to a close my nearly five years long search for the De Caro and Catalfo families, primarily of Sicily and Cleveland, Ohio. It has consumed most of my time since I began. I have completed four generation and would like to do more, but without family providing information I feel I cannot go on further with this project. I have literally hundreds of documents – birth certificates, marriage applications & licenses, death certificates, obituaries, photos of graves, emigration manifest copies, census copies, naturalization papers and more. I spent a great deal for a researcher in Sicily to help locate ancestors and provide many copies of documents from there. This work (“In Loving Memory of Nicholas Joseph De Caro, 1938-1992”) was intended for a family member. Other family members, who have made some contact with me, have informed me that they would have no desire to have this information. That greatly saddened me. My research will end on Feb. 4th, the anniversary of Nick's death. I will then be boxing it up and delivering it to a genealogy library, in the hope that someday a member of one of the families will want it and complete what I was unable to do. I am posting this to the mailing lists because I have posted so many messages on the Rootsweb Message Boards and Mailing Lists and want anyone who searches there to know my research has concluded. Thanks again, Sharon
Thanks for the correct spelling of the surname. STEIGER. I knew that what I had was incorrect but I was not sure what the correct spelling was. I will go through some documents that I have and if there is any new information on the BULLINGER brothers I will get back to you. thank again for your help, it is greatly appreciated. Ernie
germanbob, I would be interested in knowing what you have included in your book regarding the BULLINGERS.If you are interested I can trace the family line back to 1749 in Germany. I have read that there was a fire in 1899 that damaged or destroyed many structures in Berea. One of the property owners is listed as a F. BULLINGER. Would that be Frederich BULLINGER who emigrated in 1865? The 1870 census show that the "value of real estate that he owned was $3,000" so I assume that he owned a business, i.e. stone cutter, mason. Emma WEBER nee BULLINGER at her death had a surviving son, Herbert, by any chance would you know what happened to him? thanks Ernie Denver
Does anyone know what the size was of the original lots as appear on the plat map? These would be the lots as set up by the Connecticut Land Company. The majority were square and appear to be of equal size. I am interested, specifically, in the length / width in feet (or chains but not acres). Thanks, Sandy
The only info I have is on Friedrich. By the way, the wife;s name is Steiger---a common German name. Strige is not a German name---it must be a misspelling by the clerk who wrote down the marriage info. This is from my book section on Cleveland suburbs. Any additions, corrections? I've given you credit for the info in immigration date and the town of birth. Danke schn ---Bob Ward German Brewers In the 1880s, a German immigrant named Georg Neubrand, who as a result of his highly successful shoe making business and investments was known as one of the richest men in the area, bought the Davis Brewery on River Street (the present Rocky River Drive), in Middleburg, just outside Berea Village. After his death in 1892, the business was sold to an immigrant from Ingersheim, Wrttemberg, stone mason and saloon keeper Friedrich Bullinger, who, according to his great-grand nephew E. Kuemmerer, immmigrated to America in 1865 and married the following year in Cleveland. Neubrands residence, still standing at 93 East Bridge Street, is presently occupied by Ohios Boys Town Bullinger, who sold the brewery a few months after buying it, ran into trouble with the local townspeople because of the rowdiness at his saloon and his violation of Sunday closing ordinances and liquor license requirements. When saloons were outlawed by the township, he continued his business as a pool room and lunch counter. Bullinger built the Bullinger Building on Factory Street (Rocky River Drive) in the Berea Triangle. On top of the building stood two lions that local residents nicknamed Fred and Rosie after Bullinger and his wife (nee Rosina Steiger). The Bullinger residence, at 148 Front Street, near the corner of Grand, is also still standing. It originally had likenesses of Bullinger and his wife on its two short posts at the base of its steps. The lions are now on the premises of the Berea Historical Society.
Thought you might be interested to know that i make brief mention of the berea Bullingers in my STIL;L UNFINISHED book, HISTORY OF THE CLEVELAND GERMANS. EKuemmerer@aol.com wrote:Thanks to everyone on the list who had replied to my message of help. I now have a great deal of new information on the BULLINGER families in Berea, Ohio. It looks like that with the death of Otto A. BULLINGER in 1942 that this family line no longer exists in the Cleveland area. I will now have to check the 1930 census to be sure. Again thanks for your help, it is greatly appreciated. Good morning Here is a link that should be of interest to all members of this list. A nice woman maintains this site and volunteers who own CDs volunteer to do lookups on them for people who write and ask. The instructions are a little confusing, the people who are making requests are to find out for sure if there ancestors are likely to be on a CD, there is an index, once that is verified then you can request. http://loricase.com/CDs/cdlist.html Cheryl Quinn
